Default 1986 electric Club Car Won't Go (clicking noise)

I have a 1986 Electric Club Car that stopped going . When I put it in forward or reverse it just clicks. I have read a few posts on here and realized it might be a solenoid problem. I realize there are 5 solenoids - 1 master and 4 speed, with the master being on the drivers side. I first checked the two small lugs on the master solenoid. They registered 37 volts. The odd thing is that they registered this reading in both states - with the pedal pressed down and without the pedal pressed at all. After jacking up the rear end, I jumped the two large lugs with a large battery cable and pressed the pedal. It turned the wheels and clicked four separate times with every increase in pedal pressure. I then dropped the cart and was able to get it to reverse but it still would not go forward. I then took the large battery cable and jumped the large lugs on the master solenoid and was able to get it to go in forward back into the shed. Do you know what the problem could be thanks for your help.

Your master solenoid is bad, its clicking but not making internal contact. When you used jumper across 2 large lugs on master solenoid it allowed power to go to rest of speed solenoids making motor operate correctly.

I woke up this morning and put it in forward and it worked. I am worried about it just stopping on me again, though. Is this what happens when the master solenoid is dying? If so, would it be a good idea to replace the master solenoid? thanks for your input.

I to have club car electrics 36 V all resistors as yours I restored a number of these and I just bite the bullet and replace all them, and save the old good slolenods for spares or use them on the next buggie I rework. But if money's tight and it probably is just buy two, one for the known bad one and another just in case you have another one go bad. Good luck to you. JOE

It sounds to me like you may have a bad micro switch as you get 37v on the master activation circuit ALL the time? This would cause the solenoid to burn out.

This conversion is not too complicated we have done a hundred of them here on bgw in the last few years. Don't forget to check out the BGW sponsor page ~ they sell all the parts you would need for this project and they are the ones who keep this site online.
