1998 Club Car Problem

My 48 volt 1998 series club car stopped running all of a sudden. I replaced the solenoid thinking that was the problem but it did not help. I did not replace the diode or the resistor. I jumped the new solenoid and it runs. The solenoid does not seem to click when the pedal is depressed. What should I try next. And yes I am a newbee. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hey Newbie! Try the solenoid activation circuit... you need pos. and neg. at the solenoid small posts to activate the solenoid ??? not present ~ check the micro switch at the F&R

All DC tests are made with a DC voltmeter.........A quick overview of the solenoid is :
The solenoid is a HD on/off switch or Contactor
the connection is made /broken between the 2 large terminals. The 2 small terminals are the activation circuit. typically one terminal will have a constant negative connection to the pack. When Positive power is applied to the second small terminal the contact is drawn up against the spring to make contact. When power from either side of the activation circuit is removed then contact is released and the spring pushes it away interrupting the circuit ...It doesn't matter which small terminal is neg or pos on the activation circuit so long as you have both.... Hope this helps!

i am still confused as to how i go about testing the circuit???

ok. i put my volt meter across the two small terminals and activated the system. no voltage.

See which polarity is present at the activation circuit... if you can you can identify which is missing. Use a jumper wire to test you theory ~ the solenoid should click. Get a wiring diagram from the stickies at the top of this section and use it to help you trace the problem back to the micro-switch or key switch?
