motor horsepower
I've taken my motor off of my CC DS IQ cart and sending it to Plum Quick to be rebuilt into the Bandit. My motor was stamped 3.2 horsepower. How much more horsepower will it have when I get it back? I know there is a lot of variables that determines horsepower of a motor. I'm not looking for exact, just around about. It will be powered by 48 volts, 500 amp DCX Altrax controller, 2 gauge cables, and 400 amp cont. solenoid. I know Plum Quick doesn't give a horsepower rating with their motors cause all the different variables. Its not a big deal, just wondering.

Re: motor horsepower
Check with Plumb Quick for ( approximate ) answer to that question and be sure and advise them of all changes from stock, such as bat cables, controller size, etc.

Re: motor horsepower
I listed this same question on Plum Quicks forum. The only answer I received is that Plum Quick doesn't give horsepower ratings.

Re: motor horsepower
to measure horsepower produced, you'll need a dynamometer. measuring watts (in) is a much more practical approach for most and usually gives a good indication of output power gains/losses. ie: if you are consuming more watts after a motor swap, chances are good that you are producing more watts.
if you want to calculate horsepower on the input: HP = (A * V) / 745.7 -sj |

Re: motor horsepower
Well, I do not have a dynamometer, I was just wondering how much hp the purple bandit could produce. I didn't know it was going to be that complicated. It isn't that big of a deal, I just measure the horsepower the old fashioned way. I'll put the motor in when it gets back, and then see how much it pulls me back in the seat when I floor it. Thanks for the info., Greg

My Club Car DS IQ motor is rated at 3.2 horsepower. Will the horsepower rating change when I send it to Plum Quick and they rebuild it into the Bandit? If so, what horsepower will it be rated at? The horsepower rating on that motor after upgrade would be around 4.3 HP..........with that said you should never buy a motor based only on a horsepower rating. Motor manufacturers horsepower rating can and will be misleading..................it's call marketing. There's MORE factors that need to be looked at when you upgrade your cart. Things EVERYONE needs to consider to maximize your cart performance: #1 Make sure you can PUSH and PULL your cart by yourself with one hand with the brakes released. #2 Tire size?........run your tires slightly over inflated, slack tires makes for a smoother ride, but KILLS your power and will cause your motor to pull excessive amps, which will shorten your run time and cause your system to OVER HEAT. #3 Set the toe on your front end to around 1/4" toe in.........too much toe in or toe out will cause your tires to scuff, this will cause tire wear and speed loss. #4 Voltage?........Can I upgrade to a higher voltage at a later date? #5 Quality battery pack..........without very good batteries, it doesn't matter what power package you install if the batteries can't provide the power that the motor is calling for..........the motor will never reach its FULL potential. #6 Properly sized cables...........if the cables are too small and get HOT, that's power that the motor is not getting. #7 Quality F&R Switch if series cart. #8 Properly rated solenoid. #9 Properly sized controller.......MORE amps = MORE torque, just DON'T STALL the cart out and keep the pedal depressed........this can and will cause the motor and or controller to super heat. #10 Standard rear gear or aftermarket rear gear? High speed gears can and will pull more amps. #11 Change rear oil to high quality synthetic oil............less drag = more power. #12 Weight..............Backseat? Bed? Racks? How many people will be riding? #13 Where and how will you use the cart? #14 Motor..............based on ALL of the above. Yes, there is more that could be added, but this is just a short list that can help anyone with getting the max performance out of their cart. Hope this helps.......... |

Re: motor horsepower
Is there a 36V plum quick motor for a 1992 club car DS? It will be used to cruise the neighborhood with 22" tires. no back seat or bed. the neighborhood consists of paved roads, shellrock roads and grass roads and is mostly flat.
