Hi guys, first lemme say great forum, have been perusing a while now.
I bought my cart a few months back, use it at work at least 5 days a week- probably 2-3 hours pedal time per day.
Its a 94 model, ser#A9417 376767, 36v with lestronicII charger, had 6year old trogans when I got it, been replacing 1 every 2 weeks or so since- not with trojans, cant find a dealer close:( 4of 6 replaced so far, and it gets better each time.
From my reading here, I THINK I can upgrade to 48v with just a charger,2more batts, and a solenoid- would like verification on this please.
The lady I bought from claimed it had a new reverse installed, Im assuming maybe she meant switch?...
After batts are done, Im gonna upgrade wires, does this switch look like a HD one?
I have tools, know how to use them, but completely new to carts.

Welcome to bgw. The answer is ... Yes, & No.

You can make 48v with 2 more batteries. That F&R does look newer but, I doubt it is HD. Have to see the other side to tell... but the real weak point is in picture #1... The V-glide in the pie shaped box on the frame between the batteries. those things can not take 48v for long..... I've tried it. It will have a melt down... so you have to convert to a potentiometer for throttle position indicator. You need one that matches your controller so they speak the same language... I believe the black controllers were 0-5k, but a quick ohms test would confirm.

Thanx for reply!
I assume the V-glide is staged and not a true potentiometer then, where there none of these in 48v carts? The camera may be a bit tricky, to the naked eye this controller looks dark blue. Im happy with performance now, but you know how it is;) to beat the boss around the property would be very nice. Cost IS an issue tho.

Check the rating plate on the Curtis controller (opposite end as the connections), if it is 24v-36v you can not upgrade without replacing this component. If it is 36v-48v you're OK.
If money's tight, you can utilize your 36v charger and use an automotive 12v charger for the last 2 batteries.
You can shortwire the solenoid to 36v and shouldn't have to change it.
Your speed and torque would increase 30% but as ScottyB mentioned it will be hard on the V-Glide.

Very well, I will focus on the cables and batteries untill thats done, gather more info and repost later. I dont want to risk the vglide frying untill I can replace it.
Thanx for the input.

It is a 24/36 controller. Something to work toward later, i want 48v, doesnt have to be a hot setup. Thats 2-3 months out before I get serious about it.

So, to go to 48v you will need a controller, at least you have the information you need for your future upgrades.

I have 6 new batterys now, but I cant help myself- wanna upgrade to 48v, will add 2 more to bagwell. Money is still an issue of course, but I got my my bike paid off, hence feels like a raise.
Is the v-glide weak at any 48v application, or will a used/reman controller at 275-300 amps let it live a while?
what type of potentiometer is recomended?
Im looking at a mild build, eventually a slight lift, 4" is the smallest heavy duty one Ive found so far, and slighly bigger tires- its a worker and I climb curbs with it often.
I may just put HD rear springs on and leave it- I figure I can put 2" taller tires on with no lift...
I dont mean to ramble, but you guys with the knowledge need to know what the end goal is:)
I need recomendations on replacing v-glide, with what? type of charger to look for? I dont wanna short wire and use a 12v as well. controller, Im thinking a take off or reman will suit me fine at 275-300 amps. wire size for this setup? solenoid will have to change. is the HD F/R switch a must at this amperage?
I will talk about lift and tires more another day.
Thank you

correct me if im wrong but isnt that the multi step pot box/v-glide? and why wont it handle 48 since it only shows the controller resistance?
