Front wheel toe-in?
I just acquired a 1997 DS, 48volt, with about a 6 inch lift and Carlisle 22x11-10 All Trail tires, and there seems to be a lot of negative toe-in (i.e. toe-out) the way it's set up right now. It also binds a bit on the right front when making a sharp right turn, which a little less toe-out might reduce. The seller mentioned something about "spacers" to improve the interference problem.
Is there such a thing as an alignment guideline for these things? Any idea what he meant by spacers? Also, with 2005 Trojan T875s, this thing should be good for 3-4 miles, right? Thanks in advance! |

Re: Front wheel toe-in?
Welcome to BGW! Proper alignment is 1/4 inch toe in when measure at the rear and again at the front of the tire = 1/4" less in front. This is usually close enough.

Re: Front wheel toe-in?
Toe in should be 1/8"-1/4".
Is the "binding" tire rubbing on some thing like frame or body? I would check your F&R springs for heighth and front end for being square to frame as 22" tires usually dont rub? I dont know what he's talking about unless its the extension plate that gives you about 1 1/2"-2" of wheels forward location? Spacing front suspension would depend on type of lift you have? As to almost 6 year old batterys its about time for replacements? My own 875's are 9 years old BUT have been given correct care and charging from installation until now and they are getting weak and short on range. Previous owner unloaded a weak battery pack before it was on its last legs? If it was a dealer I would ask at least for a good price on replacemnets? |

Re: Front wheel toe-in?
Well, my toe in is certainly way off.
The right front tire rubs against the body on a sharp turn. I't too cold and wet out to take a good look at what exactly is happening. I didn't get it from a dealer, and in fact had to drive 250 miles each way to pick it up. But I think $1500 is a pretty good price even if the batteries are on the old side. The paint is good, the tires are like new, and everything looks ship shape. My local (i.e. 40 miles away) battery place sells T875s for $139 - is that a reasonable price? |

Re: Front wheel toe-in?
In December I bought some 875's for $120 ea from a local one man shop. They are 2010 batteries so, I would say that the price is a little high from what I bought.

Re: Front wheel toe-in?
If you have spindle lift it could be weak springs, but normally the drivers side is lowest because of constant weight? Local 875's batterys last week were $125 with Texas tax ( starting to check prices for my cart ) , so depending on local taxes etc its a little high or maybe right in line?

We don't have a sales tax, so I guess I just haven't looked hard enough.

When you live in a state with no sales tax, I bet there is something else that they hit you with!
