Default 05 club car 48 volt will not run

I just bought a 05 club car 48 volt from a guy. He said " he thought that the cart needed a charger" When I hook the charger to the cart it does nothing. The car is dead and the lights and horn won't work. I put a car charger on the cart for about a hour. The headlights and the horn works now but the cart will still not move forward or in reverse. The back up beeper works but I can't hear nothing when I push the gas pedal down. Please help anyone.

Can you give us a serial number, it will help...

How long did you use a car charger to charge each battery? I'm trying to see if you did 10 minutes per battery, or one hour per battery.

Check all your connections and make sure they are all clean and tight. You need to check the water in the batteries. Only use distilled water. Fill them to about 1/4 inch above the lead plates BEFORE charging. Do not try to charge the whole pack with a 12 volt auto charger....it won't work, you will do more harm than good. There is an OBC (on board computer) that controls the charger but the pack needs to have voltage. Does your batteries have any voltage at all? You need a voltmeter to tell.

I put the charger on one battery for about a hour. I will go out to the shop and get the serial number. I checked the water in all the batterys they are ok. I have not checked the voltage on the batterys but the lights and the horn works now. They didn't work before I charged the battery.

Here is a few pictures. I seen on one side of the battery their is a red wire connected to another red wire. on the other side their is a blue wire thats not connected to anything. You will see in the pictures what I'm talking about. I think they go to the lights but not sure.

Pics are worth a thousand words. We have 4 12volt batteries. You certainly can try charging one at a time with automotive charger. Hope you have a good one. Do yourself, and us a favor, buy yourself a voltmeter and get a reading on all the batteries before you charge and 30 minutes after. Post those before readings here. Is your charger the select an amperage type?

Should I unhook the cables from the battery before I charge them?

Okay...you really need to know what the voltage is now before you do something like overcharge a battery...so the voltage meter is critical. We need those individual readings,& the pack total (take the reading where the charger connects to the bgattery pack). Typically a 'neg' at one end and a 'pos' at the other end of the pack. AGAIN, you will need a volt meter. And no. You do not need to diconnect an individual battery in order to charge it but you must be careful how you hook them up. Do you understand how the batteries are connected in "series" to keep adding voltage? 4 x 12 = 48 volts. Post those volt meter readings.....let us see what is going on Did anyone say 'check the water level before charging' yet?
