Steering Trouble
I recently had a Jakes 6 inch lift and new wheels and tires put on my 2006 Precedent. The steering feels different since I added the lift. Seems the faster the cart goes it sways from left to right and the steering feels kind of loose like there is play. The steering was tight feeling when I first got it back. What could be making it feel like this? I'm taking back where I bought it to have this checked.

Re: Steering Trouble
You should wait for the experts, but my opinion is either air pressure or alignment is causing this. Can't speak for your lift kit, but mine came with alignment instructions to adjust toe-in and camber. I'm sure the shop that you bought it from has experience.
Start experimenting with air pressure. Lower pressure should give you a more stable ride. |

Re: Steering Trouble
I would contact Jakes direct and explain whats going on and I'm sure they will be able to help. You must remember that a 6" lift and probably larger diameter tires with high lug tread lifts the center of gravity on any cart so in a way its a trade off? Yes like CINROCK says tire perssure and alignment all all major factors in steering and should be addressed after contacting Jakes. Unable to see as you have no avatar but if yours looks like CINROCK's you may have high lugged tread and this alone will cause wander and vibration on hard surfaces and get worse according to speed. You end up with tire bounce to the point where tires are not on ground that much and this makes for what I call "floating". Another factor is how tires are shipped and end results is tires very much out of round and not running true until after tires have been heated and cooled many times?

Re: Steering Trouble
I have to say that my cart steers 100% better than when I got it with an arguably worn out stock front end and stock 8" tires. This is mostly because All Sports replaces everything but the hubs and shocks. The knobbys will hum at speed and give a choppy feel at low speed but I haven't noticed any wandering.

Re: Steering Trouble
Thanks Cinrock and OLD MEC. I have the Jakes 6" spindle lift. I will check the tire pressure and toe in and camber. I'm taking it back to the place that installed it. I'm sure it's something simple to adjust. It wasn't steering squirly before I changed it out. I figured out how to post the picture of it. Thanks

Re: Steering Trouble
You can adjust the toe yourself or take it back to them but that is your problem.
What air pressure are you running in the tires? |

Re: Steering Trouble
Just an update on my steering problem since i installed the 6" drop spindle lift. I took my cart to a local golf cart shop. They said my front end was out of wack. They made the correct adjustments and it rides and steers 100% better.
