need help/info on battery break in
Ok here is the issue I am faced with, I live in a largely retirement age community while still be fairly young (lol 42) and mobile. I was asked to put a new set of batteries in a neighbors golf cart (95 cc) I installed the batts and explained the break in procedure to her, using my charger (as hers has been stolen) I put the new batts on the charger to bring them up to full before she used the cart, that was yesterday at 2pm it is now 6:45pm 28 hours later and the charger was still running. Has anyone ever had the break in charge take this long the charger is hovering at about 4amps. I have had it take 18 hours for a break in charge but never this long. I know the charger is working properly as it works on my cart fine, I am sure that her OBC is working as it cycled the charger on and off, before starting the charge cycle. Am I missing something or is this in the normal parameters for the break in charge. Thank you all for your help on this one.

Re: need help/info on battery break in
Normally the OBC will not allow the charger to stay on continuously for more the 16 hours if working correctly .
So unplug the charger take readings on the pack 10-12 hours from now . If it is really low check each battery and post results here. If it's close to normal , then plug it up again and keep a close eye on it. On more than one occasion lately , people have gotten bad batteries straight off the shelf. and read this post from cheep jeep http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/attac...tery-guide.pdf |

Scotty, double checked all batt wiring before starting charge to make sure it was right, I didn't have my meter with me on the way home tonite, or when I went back to unplug and retrieve charger, I will check the volts tomorrow on the way home and post results.

Not really pertinent info at that time ... Something is wrong at 28 hours. THe batteries were sitting on the shelf 4 mos? Something.

Re: need help/info on battery break in
Ok checked the volts on the batts tonite on the way home all batts were reading at 8.3 to 8.4, so 100% by state of charge, I am guessing that there is something wrong with the OBC in her cart, not telling the charger to shut off, It is cycling properly when I plug the charger in and I know there is not a problem with the charger as it is working fine on my cart. Not really sure where to go from here. Still thinking that 28 hours is a bit extreme for break in, oh and batts are dated Feb, 11 so they haven't sat on the shelf.

Re: need help/info on battery break in
NOTE: at 8.3 battery is only at 80% , so after OBC reset try charging again for a few hours. read this http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...-readings.html |
