Default 12-Volt to 8-Volt Conversion

Anyone done this?

I'd liked to know more about it.

Like, why? When? Did CC assist?

Thanks

Smile Re: 12-Volt to 8-Volt Conversion

The 4 X 12V precedents do not have as much run time as the 6 x 8V batteries. Club Car has switched to 6 - 8 volt batteries on the Precedent.

The more lead in a flooded (lead/acid) cell battery, the more capacity it has.

So, using the Trojan web site as a reference, a 12 volt battery weighs 82 lbs. An 8 volt battery weighs 69 lbs.

So 4X82 = 328 lbs for the 12 volt batteries. And 6X69=414 lbs for the 8 volt batteries

As you can see, the 6 - 8 volt batteries have more lead (they weigh more), which will result in more run time.

I am not endorsing Trojans, or any other brand, just using their web site as an information source.

My 2 cents worth.

Have fun, Dave

A couple different threads talking about the same thing, but . . .

did CC suggest it . . . endorse it . . . or involved in any way?

One reason I'm asking is maybe three years ago, in the 2005 fleet of Precedents at my golf course, CC replaced all the batteries, the talk at that time being "because the old ones were bad". We hadn't had any problems, I had no reason to notice if it was a switch from 12 to 8.

But, I'm wondering if CC did that for lease fleets.

In another thread, someone said EZ Go switched TXTs to 8s, but RXVs are still 12s. Is that right?

I was just googling and read CC's announcement when they introduced the Precedent in 2004. They were hyping the switch from six 8's to four "high capacity" 12s because of the reduced weight.

That didn't pan out, huh?!
