Is it just the fact that they are new?
Knowing that Trojans have gone down hill in quality, they were still only choice as compared to Wal-Mart Brand or Exide when I had to get new batteries in October. (dealer started carrying Crowns a month later.. )
This is the FIRST set of new batteries that I have had in my own cart. Since I have been carting, so I am trying to figure out if it's just the batteries still being new or if it's the quality of the Trojan's. I put them in did the full break-in procedure cycle 12 times (break-in). So it's been through several charge cycles since the break-in (I would say maybe 20 cycles.) I know they are still very young but they seem to be discharging faster than my old generics, nothing else has changed on the cart. So is just me, are they still breaking in and will expand their ability to hold charge? So far I am not impressed but not sure if it's just newness still. |

Re: Is it just the fact that they are new?
Just sit back and relax as most new batterys take 50 or more discharge-charge cycles before power is fully up to snuff. Trojan says 50 to 100 or more and never allow below 80% of charge until broken in.
If you are in doubt about Trojan batterys quality to start with you will never be happy with them, no matter how good they may be ( I find that mind set is a terrible thing )? My own Trojans are now over 9 years of age and just now starting to take shorter runs between charges and longer to bring them up to full power. You have a very heavy loaded cart with larger diameter tires, high output motor and controller package, lift kit, extra seat, maybe HD springs so its not going to tear up the road right away. ( Most owners ) start out all wrong with new batterys and cant keep from not climbing in a see how much power you get, BEFORE CHARGING PACK UP FOR THE FIRST TIME? Like I said before just relax and put charger on after each use and you should be happy very soon. By the way did you go with at least T-875 or better yet T-890's? |

Re: Is it just the fact that they are new?
6. What to Expect from Your Trojan Battery
• A new battery will not deliver its full rated capacity. This is normal and should be expected as it takes time to “work the battery up” • Trojan’s batteries take between 50 – 100 cycles to work up to providing full, peak capacity• When operating batteries at temperatures below 80°F (27°C) they will deliver less than the rated capacity. For example at 0°F (-18°C) the battery will deliver 50% of its capacity and at 80°F (27°C) it will deliver 100% of its capacity • When operating batteries at temperatures above 80°F (27°C) they will deliver more than the rated capacity but the battery life will be reduced • The life of a battery is difficult to predict as it will vary with application, frequency of usage and level of maintenance Patience ! |

Re: Is it just the fact that they are new?
Recently Trojan has told my battery distributor it will take up to 150 cycles to reach peak performance.... Trojan still makes a good battery ~ no doubt about that.

Re: Is it just the fact that they are new?
Like I said, I was just curious if it was because they were just new.....
Have put in 100's of new batteries but not for my own cart. Thanks for confirming what I suspected. |

Re: Is it just the fact that they are new?
The key word in my statement is peak performance. 150 cycles to reach peak performance. I do not know how many cycles the batteries can maintain peak performance before they start their long decent down the path of diminished performance. Your rate of discharge, storage, maintenance, and general use habits will effect the results greatly.
By the way, you never said which Trojans you bought? |
