Default 09 Precedent with Road package Do I have 12 volt lights etc?

Dealer told me I should have 12 volt lights etc, when I took my volt meter to the switch and blinker, it showed 16 volts.

Just want to add cig lighter outlet to charge cell phone and use gps unit at the moment.

Thanks CK

If this was a cart that you got from a dealer take it back and have him repair or add as needed. If I am correct on newer Precedents from factory ( with lights ) has 12 volt wiring loom sourse, while if lights added later people will either have to use 48 volt to 12 volt reducer or tap off 2 batterys which give you 16 volts ( 2 8 volt batterys in series ) and can get by with lights, BUT anything else is a NO NO. Makes great smoke as radios etc burn up.
Sounds like some one was trying to save money by ( not getting reducer ), Or didn't know what happens when you use 2 8 volt batterys in series?

Thanks, yeah 16v is kinda hot! Will pull a light off and see if that is 12v or 16v.

The carts were a group buy via a golf course, I think equipped by factory for lights etc. will post results of that check.

Unfortunatley still need a phone from time to time, GPS for fun.

Thanks, CK

Turn the headlights on and check it at the same source. The factory reducer shows 16 until loaded.

So to get 12v, I would need to turn on the lights to kick it in?

Does not sound to practical to get 12v at a cig plug, will check it out.

The cellphone plug is a 12v to 5v somehow. Thanks, CK

If you've got the factory configuration, you'll see 16 volts until it's loaded. I'm positive of that. It doesn't necessarily "kick it on" It's the simple fact that there's nothing drawing from it when the lights are off, therefore there's nothing to be reduced. Make sense? Your loaded voltage will be somewhere between 12 - 13.2-13.4. 13-14 volts won't hurt a thing. An automobile charging system operates at 14.4 volts for all 12V accessories.

About your cell phone plug. I'm assuming you're reading that directly off of the plug itself. The plug has a built in reducer designed just for the cell phone it's made for. It's intended to be plugged into a 12Volt source.

Thanks, have been away for a while, I am wondering if the little draw for a cig plug with cell charger will be enough load, will check with lights on also.

Appreciate info, Cal

most cell phone chargers are based on a switching regulator (like the 34063 or similar) which can handle input voltages MUCH higher than 16 volts. even linear regulators should have no problem burning off the extra couples of volts. so in other words, you do not need to load the CC regulator down to avoid burning your cell phone charger.
