charger cuts off
I have a 97 electric club car. I use it at the deer lease, lift kit big tires, etc. we had some loose cables and it melted one of the batteries. we replaced battery and changed from 6 to 4 gauge cables. when you plug in charger it runs for 5 minutes then shuts off. the low battery light comes on. what do you think? I have another charger from another club car, does the same thing.

Re: charger cuts off
well thats not good, your gonna need to find a way to get them charged up but if you have 2 different chargers doing this i would get a diagram and go over the cables and cart charging system theres something cutting the chargers off.....is it a reagan cart?? lever type F&R or switch?? you can try re-booting the OBC or it could be OBC going bad although i havn,t seen many at all go bad like that.......get a manual it tells you how to re-boot................................

Re: charger cuts off
If all batterys read upper 7's that means only about 40-45% charged, and pack at 47.8 means pack is only 40% charged.
#1 I am assuming that from readings you have a 1997 Club Car ( 48 volt ) cart is this correct? ( alway good to give model, pack voltage, and type of F&R control to speed up forum answers ) #2 Is your charger a STOCK Club Car Power Drive model 17930, what color is dash light? And ( if not ) what model CC is it OR another brand and model charger do you have? This question is because 48 volt CC from factory came with a OBC ( On Board Computer ) that controls the rate and amount of charger operation. #3 If you have C C charger and OBC and it didnt worked with another like charger your problem most likely is the OBC. The OBC has pack ground wire running through center and are very costly so you need to try a RESET first. #4 Go to STICKIES and look under "Resetting The OBC" and do reset procedure. #5 If reset does not work you might want to go to STICKIES and look under "Complete Manual For Power Drive Charger" as tests may solve your problem? Be sure to look under section showing ( your charger ) as through the years there have been different brands used that require different test procedures. Hope this will help solve your problem? |

Re: charger cuts off
if it wasn,t for the fact he tried 2 different chargers i would have said look at a problem in the charger but whats the chance of 2 of them being bad doing the same thing........i would lean towards the OBC even though i,m miffed about the charger working for 5 minutes before shutting off............

Re: charger cuts off
to determine if it is the charger or OBC, and more than likely the OBC
Do the OBC reset http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...er-system.html Then after this completes try charging Again . If charger still fails then do the OBC bypass on the charger as in picture. 1 more ? and this is very important , 2 years ago we had a person who replaced their cables. When doing so they reversed the Direction which the OBC is threaded it caused these exact symptoms. So check, from the last "-" NEG battery post (last battery in the chain) the cable should thread through the face of the OBC. Check this ? Pictures of the batteries and OBC would be nice , Thanks |

Re: charger cuts off
What about doing an obc bypass test to determine the charger (transformer) is good?
