Default Carryall II Controller Questions

Noobie to forum and cart here. I have a what is supposed to be a 2000 Carryall II. It has a Curtis PMC 1204-412 controller. When you press the accelerator pedal a solenoid clicks and the cart takes off full speed which on level ground seems about 8 to 10 mph. I cannot detect any significant difference in pedal settings. Is this a defective controller or could a bad pot do this?

Also going downhill there is no regenerative braking. Is this model cart supposed to have it? Thanks.

After doing some reading of the Curtis controller pdf manual, I tested the resistance of the pot box. Using the 2K scale it read .386 at rest and .46 floored with intermittent readings of .6** to .9**. It never went to 0 or anything over 1 so I gather the pot is defective.

pots are normally up to 5k so i would recommend going up one scale.

I tried that. It gives the same numbers, just moves the decimal point. Mine never reads zero nor goes over 1.*** and the readings are intermittent, they don't steadily increase as the pedal is depressed.

I am quite sure now that the pot box is defective. The remaining question is if the controller is OK. I spoke to a tech who repairs and upgrades Curtis controllers and he said that the 1204 series is very robust. He hardly ever repairs one, just upgrades them to 400A.

Did you mean to say pot box? Can you just buy the potentiomer and replace it in the pot box? If so, where can I get the part? I have found a PB6 for $85.

Also, there seems to be some disagreement on whether the 1204-412 controller takes a 0-5k or a 5k-0 pot. The Curtis manual says 0-5k but it does not specifically list the 1204-412. I read on another thread that someone with my model controller needed a 5K-0.

im not sure exactly which box you have on your cart, but if its like mine, its just a wiper, a bunch of resistors & a microswitch. worth opening it up and taking a look prior to ordering a new box!

if its a silver 1204-412 on a club car, im 99% sure its 5k-0.

It's silver. Thanks. I think it is the 5k-0.
