Default Battery Pack Guage Question.

I have an 06 Precedent 48v and installed a cheap voltage guage when I bought it. It has about 10 lights from blinking red at empty to several stages of green when full or slightly down. After a few miles it will go to red even with a multimeter reading of about 50v. After a few minutes off and then turned back on it will go to full green. Yesterday I put about 21 mi. on the cart without a charge and multi meter read 48.3v. The guage had been blinking red from about 15 mi. on.
Is there a guage available that will give me an accurate idea of how much juice is left? If we drove 21mi. without a charge and was still running at full speed with no power loss and multimeter displaying full pack at 48.3 v how much further might it go? That is the longest drive we have tried to date. Thanks, Frank

Your 48.3v equates to +- 12.07v per battery if 4 x 12v or 8.05v if 6 x 8v which is about 50% discharged. For decent life out of your batteries it would not be recommended that you allow them to go below that level too often and not less than 12v or 8v respectively.
"Scotty" sells a proper voltmeter, its not cheap but then again if you buy cheap you buy twice.

Scotty's voltmeter is top notch, just installed one myself. It is nice to see the true voltage while running.

The only time I would run batterys down below 50% would be because of an emergency? Remember fully charged 48 volt pack is 50.96 volts at 48.3 volts you have around 45% of charge left and by doing this you start to damage motor, controller and possibly leave you beside the road with ruined batterys?
If you are going to do alot of long continues runs I would get a digital dash meter, as light units like you have give pretty flashing lights but not much real info in my opinion? Even with digital meter the readings only apply when cart is still for at least a few minutes.
