Default Choosing new batterries....

I currently have a 2001 club car that is lifted with an upgrade high speed motor and a 400 amp control with 4 gauge wire and a heavy F&R controller. I now seem to find my batteries are dying quickly. i have 6 - 8 volt U.S. Battery Batteries. I am looking around to replace them and i have a battery company near me that we get batteries for everything else at. the batteries they have that are 8 volt deep cycle are called Global Batteries made in Korea called YUASA. They rated for 115 minutes at 56 amps. i am trying to understand first if these batteries are worth while sincei can get them at 80 dollars a piece and how i figure out how many minutes they will run comparative to other brands such as Trojan and US Battery....

1st thing you say they are deep cycle? no good you want a true golf cart battery there is a difference........your cart is a 2001? do you know if your batteries are the originals.....if so that makes them over 10 years old which isn,t bad at all.........chances are though they are not the originals.........if you can afford it just go with the trogens and don,t look back cause if you break them in right and maintain them you,ll get plenty of years of reliable service from them..............whatever you do DO NOT buy deep cycle batteries....................................

Don't know anything about that battery brand. I looked on their website and I don't see deep cycle batteries listed anywhere. You need to make sure that they are "true" deep cycle. Do you know the weight on these batteries? These are the numbers from Trojan and US Battery for their best true deep cycle golf cart 8v batteries.

Trojan T890 132 @ 56 amps 69 lbs
US Battery 8VGCHC 136 @ 56 amps No weight listed

I have T890's ordered for my 48v conversion and they are $169 each!

ok a little confused... I got shadow telling me don't by deep cycle and everyone else saying they need to be true deep cycle? These are specifically made for golf carts. the battery is a yuasa but it is a Global Yuasa and they are made in Korea. as for the weight they are 61lbs. Like i said the spec states 115 minutes @ 56 amp and 170 RATE (AH)@ 20 Hr. for the price compared to the Trojans they don't seem to far different. I would prefer not to spend 900 dollars for new batteries the part number is GC-8V but want ot make sure that these are not a terrible battery and will run me 15 to 20 miles when i use the cart. I am usinig it on dirt roads with a lift kit and knobby tires and an upgraded high speed motor / 400 amp controller, 4 gauge wire.

For run time they seem to compare closely with the Trojan 875s which I have in one of my carts. My concern would be about the longevity or number of cycles, discharge/recharges? Is the warranty the same as Trojan?

FYI, I live in central FL and was just quoted $625 to replace my six Trojan 875s.

You've really got me stumped on these batteries. I've searched all over everywhere and I don't see any 8 volt batteries by Yuasa anywhere, not even on their own site. I found some sites from the UK that listed Yuasa golf cart batteries but they are for the little 3 wheeled things that just carry your bag and are 12 volt.

As long as they are truly deep cycle golf cart batteries they would be ok....especially for the price. What a lot of marine type deep cycle batteries have is lead sponge not solid lead plates. They are more of a hybrid between a cranking battery and a real deep cycle that is meant for applications such as golf carts and will not hold up under the constant cycling that we put them through. Real golf cart batteries should always have soild lead plates. The type with the lead sponge plates is what we were warning you about not getting. Of course, you'd have to cut them open to make for sure.

The specs you listed for the Yuasa 8v are almost dead on the T875 Trojans so I'd imagine they would be fine. Look at it this way, you can be the guinea pig. Sorry to not be more help. Perhaps some the the real battery experts will chime in here soon.

I'd still be interested in how much they weigh.

I am told these are specifically made for golf carts. When i asked for them they said what are you using them for and i said Golfcart and they said just making sure. the battery is a yuasa but it is a Global Yuasa and they are made in Korea. as for the weight they are 61lbs. I was hoping someone might have experience wit hthem. heck if they work out i might have to start buying and reselling as a middle man JK

61 lbs is not bad. The Trojan T875's are 63 lbs. I went for the T890's because they are 69 lbs. Obviously all the cases and the water weigh close to the same so the extra weight equates to pure lead which was important to me considering my upgrades. I'd say it would probably be hard to go wrong with the Yuasa batteries for $80 each.
