07 Precedent...Electric Pop - NO Reverse!
I sure did it this time........got my new golf cart home - loaded everything up - new speakers, amps, sub - everything working beautifully....got sloppy trying to rearrange something and didnt disconnect the battery when I had to take some wires off the motor - then POP....electric short...
Now cart goes ok in forward - I think it screwed up my private speed mode settings, but reverse is a no go...figuring that was the node I arc'd across... car serial is PQ0725-769138, Controller Serial 3236488 model 1510 A-5250 250amp, its a 4-12volt (48V) cart... Any ideas if this is what I did, if so suggestions on replacement / fixing? Thanks!! |

Re: 07 Precedent...Electric Pop - NO Reverse!
Sorry to hear this, I just recently had a similar problem and it was costly. I was taking some measurements underneath the cart and my tape measure fell between the A2 & F2 terminals on the motor. I lost my forward and still had reverse, I spoke with Robby at PlumQuick and he said that it knocked out the controller. So I explored all of my options new stock controller, used, remanufactured or aftermarket. I ended up going aftermarket and couldn't be happier, although it cost a little more than a new stock controller and having speed set 4 programmed. I called Robby back and had him send me a 500A Flight Systems controller now it will run a solid 24 mph and almost give you whiplash. You can run the stock motor with it and if you still want more you can upgrade the motor in the future.

I have little knowlege in elec carts but have owned a couple. Sounds like to me a F-N-R switch problem. Check your cables at switch. Anyway cheaper than a new comtroller. Best of luck, Mike

If only it could be that simple. Unfortunately the F/R switch on an IQ cart just a rocker switch that provides the controller a signal telling it which direction to go. In a serial or resistor cart the F/R switch carries the load of the motor which shorting at the motor could damage the switch.

Re: 07 Precedent...Electric Pop - NO Reverse!
Thanks guys...yeah all roads point to the controller...I'll give the guys a call and see what they recommend...sounds like the 500 amp and some cables are in my near future.......
and hopefully some common sense and patience so I dont do this again! So really the controller and cables should be it for the upgrade correct ? any other weak links in the system to be worried about? thanks again |

Re: 07 Precedent...Electric Pop - NO Reverse!
before you jump at buying a controller there are at least a few test you can do to determine if its the controller.......1st thing is buy a service manual for your cart and follow the troubleshooting guide and or the step by step testing to see just what went bad.........this is the best money you,ll ever spend on your cart if your gonna do things yourself, it would really suck to go out and buy a new controller only to find out you still have the same problem......i have seen that many a time and even did it once myself that was the last time.......unless your 100% certain its the controller i wouldn,t just go out and buy one...............good luck with it................

I agree with Shadowman on what you should try, however, I have done that exact thing when tired - short story, controller fried.

Re: 07 Precedent...Electric Pop - NO Reverse!
We only have one cart shop in our area and they too like to name their price. Gotta love the guys at PlumQuick though, they have always been pleasant to deal with. The cost of the aftermarket controller is a little hard to swallow but by far some of the best money invested so far. The stock one will also be much easier to install, hopefully you are up and running soon. Keep us posted.

It's a bad controller. Take my word for it. I see it three or four times a month.
