Default Cart won't charge (2002 DS Club Car)

I have a 2002 Club Car DS. I've had it for about 5 years, and installed new batteries about 2-1/2 years ago. Last night, for the first time, when I plugged in the OEM PowerDrive 2 charger, the ammeter would not pop over to indicate charging. I looked under the seat to see if anything was amiss that could be seen, and all looked OK. I tried plugging and unplugging the charger repeatedly, and it made no difference. I borrowed a friend's charger (exactly the same as mine) and it worked fine.

I'd think that my charger is the problem as another charger works OK, but I'm not sure about that. Could it be something else? Assuming the charger is the problem, what's the next step - try to repair it (or have someone repair it), or replace it? If my charger is repairable, can I do the work myself, i.e., is there something easily replaceable that I can do myself (I'm not a stranger to electrical work)? I have maintenance manuals for the Club Car, but they do not include doing any work on the charger. If I replace it, would it be best to get an OEM type, or one with the microprocessor built in?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as I depend on the Club Car for a lot of my mobility.

Go to STICKIES and Look under listing "Complete Maual For Power Drive Charger" to diagnose your problem. Be sure and check for blown fuses or breakers-rests on charger before going to internal tests.

if another charger is working than yours has an issue......could end up just being a 10 fix .....there are several things, circuit breaker, diodes, the plug itself best to start testing things and find out.....................

I downloaded the charger manual and went through every test in it. The charger passed all of the continuity tests. The only test slightly off spec was the rectifier diode bridge. The manual said the diode test between the + and - terminals should have been 878 mv, and I got 799 mv. The measurement between the + terminal and the other two terminals should have been 483 mv according to the manual, and I got about 430 mv. Should those differences be considered OK or not? Should I replace the bridge?

In any event, after I pulled and replaced all of the terminals (several times) during the continuity test cycle, I took the charger out and plugged it into the cart. Now it seems to be working OK, at least for the time being. Maybe it was just a high-resistance internal connection that was fixed during the testing by re-seating. We'll see. Could it be something having an intermittent failure, like the relay?

In the event I need to replace one of the internal components (like the rectifier bridge or relay) where do I find these?

I find that especially in salt air areas like mine that connections can get really badly corroded, so you may have solved your problem? Parts are available from forums sponsors so check with the people that support this site first.

Thanks. I'll just hope I don't have any more problems, as the charger is still working today. Salt air is not a problem here - I'm a little west of you, near Del Rio.
