Club Car DS - no charge no go
Since I replaced the stock controller with a Alltrax DCX400 and a new solenoid the cart has been working great. I also eventually replaced the motor as well for a newer high torque unit. It's been working great for over a year solid.
Saturday at the race track we drove around the cart pretty much all day and late that evening I was driving around to the staging lanes when the cart just stopped going anywhere. No status lights on the controller and no solenoid click either. Could one bad battery cause this? The main fuse is fine, and I did notice that the last battery's terminal is a little messed up but is making contact. Before I go checking everything I figured I'd ask y'all to see if there's something obvious and easy to test for. I do have the controller's output set pretty low to make the charge last longer. Also, when hooking up the charger now it doesn't do anything, nothing on the ammeter. |

Re: Club Car DS - no charge no go
is it a 48 volt cart? what year? yes one bad battery can cause the cart to stop so you might want to start by checking all your cables make sure they are tight and clean and that none came off......also check the fuse on the charge receptical under the seat, it almost sounds like you might have more than one problem.........if its a 48 volt cart that stopped running and won,t charge now it could be that your OBC went bad but your soleniod should click i beleive, with the soleniod not clicking it could be that it went bad but the cart should charge..........start by checking cables and getting voltage from each battery..........if you ran the battery down low enough the charger won,t come on....................................

Re: Club Car DS - no charge no go
Yeah sorry forgot to mention its a 48v cart, 99.5 I believe. Its a PD+ model, I don't have the regen stuff hooked up because of the DCX400. I'm about to go look at the cart, I think I'm going to buy all new cables for it anyways. Is there someone that sells a kit that's pre-crimped with the right terminals? If non-sponsor just PM me. Thanks for the reply :)

most of the sponsers should have a set of cables pre made with ends on and they,ll be as cheap as anyone else, get your battery voltage if its above 38 volts the charger should work and if it dosn,t than than you have an issue..................

Yeah was 37.56v, one of the batteries is shot I think. Most measured 7.5-8v and one was 5.5-6
I'll remove and replace that one battery and all the cables this week and report back. |

Re: Club Car DS - no charge no go
i would get it charging and after a full charge test the batts, load test them and ckeck cells with a battery hydrometer.........you might need to replace them and do the cables at same time.......take your time with cables can,t tell you how many people mis-cable the pack.....................

Re: Club Car DS - no charge no go
Well I confirmed that I'm not crazy or retarded by talking with my dad earlier. Not sure why they thought it was a good idea, but we had a bad battery in it last summer and they had an extra fork lift 6v battery laying around on one of our job-sites. So that one odd looking battery with 3 holes in the top that didn't test out to be 7v+ was the oddball lol. Makes sooooo much more sense now. From what I recall, the "ignition" source to the controller won't be excited if the pack is less than the 38v rating. Going to buy a new 8v on the way home and put it in there to see how it does. Also ordering some new battery cables tonight just to make sure everything is top notch. Plan on towing the race cars with it soon :)

Also, the batteries in there are dated 12/09 so they should be alright. Going to put the hydrometer on them anyways to make sure we're all good. They tested all within range with the voltmeter yesterday.

Re: Club Car DS - no charge no go
yes its not gonna hurt at all to test them, get rid of that 6 volt batt....its funny cause i see that all the time people just drop a 6 volt in with the 8 volts or drop an 8 volt in with the 6 volts, sometimes you can get away with it but more times than not it will cause trouble the kind of nickle and dime you to death trouble..........make sure water level is good also and if needed distilled water only...................................
