Precedent secondary battery for stereo
I had a friend tell me that i could not get an optima battery in the dash of my precedent! Well I got it with a little modification. I now have a 12v Optima marine deep cell battery for the stereo and other accesories. i am using a 48v normally open relay so stereo will only work with the cart key switched on. I also have a 48v to 12v reducer that will be wired to the optima battery. I have a 12v normally closed relay that will cut off the reducer if the stereo is on so that you will have no interference. So far I have the overhead pioneer cd player and the pioneer marine 6.5". I will be adding two more 6.5" between front and rear seats. Will also have 10" downfiring under rear seat with amp mounted under dash. I still have to get dash cover and cut in switch panel for all accesories. Wires are in the roof support and go in the side of cart and around the front under the outside body. Only visible wires are 4" from roof support to radio console.

Re: Precedent secondary battery for stereo
I assume that you wired the 48 v to 12 v reducer to charge accesory battery as well as all non sterio equipment? Just be sure the amp rating of reducer is enough to handle a heavily used ( discharged ) battery? Many reducers only can handle 10 amps so be careful and not overload unit.

Re: Precedent secondary battery for stereo
I was looking into using a secondary battery for the radio, lights, etc. I was about to toss my son's ride on Jeep toy when I realized it has a 12v sealed gel cell deep cycle battery and charger small enough to fit anywhere.

Re: Precedent secondary battery for stereo
Looks like as good solution to the radio problem. I was going to do the same thing but opted to use my camper battery installed in the bag well to run the radio. I rarely use the camper and the golf cart at the same time, so this was the best solution for us. I can probably go a month before I have to plug in the trickle charger and the under dash area remained available to mount the radio.
Thanks for posting the pics, they're bound to help others considering the addition of a radio. |
