Default Solanoid Problems

Hi I am having problems with my 2004 Club Car Precedent 48volt.All the bells and lights come on ok
It won't go forward or reverse.If I jump a cable across the two main terminals on the solanoid it works ok.I am not sure if it is the resistor or solanoid that is gone.Can I just run a cable from terminal to terminal on the solonoid and do away with the resistor cable ??? I am pretty dumb when it comes to this sort of stuff.;
Ok all the experts please give this poor old Aussie heaps.
Thanks in Advance.

You need to determine if the solenoid has failed or the activation circuit has failed. To check avtivation circuit performance put you DVM test leads on the 2 small solenoid terminals while you depress the gas peddle. (key on, cart in gear) if you get pack voltage but the solenoid does not engage then the solenoid has failed.
If you do not get the pack voltage reading at the activation terminals the solenoid may be okay but the activation circuit has failed.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Scotty,for the reply.When I switch everything on I am getting a clicking sound from the solenoid when I press the go pedal.I will test the activation circuit as you suggest.What would I need to replace if that is the problem.I am trying to purchase a resistor that goes from each large terminal of the solenoid, I have funny feeling that may be the problem.Do you have them ? if so can I purchase two ? I will get a spare one for a rainy day.
I am in Australia I can do a direct deposit into your account if you have them.
The model of my cart is 2004 48volt 4x 12 volt batteries, Club Car Precedent.
We have shortage of spare parts for club cars in this country.Maybe I need to start up a small distrubution centre.
Thanks Rod
