Grounding problem with Club Car?

1996 48v. Club Car, serial #A9641-535121. Problem - From the negative post of battery pack to chassis I'm reading 37v. Is this normal? Also, with the solinoids de-energized, there is 48v. on the load side of the solinoid. It's almost like it's bleeding across the big posts of the solinoids. With the solinoids energized there is the 50v. Is this 48v. normal with the solinoids de-energized normal? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to BGW!
There is no current in the body or frame of an electric cart.
There is no pack voltage across the solenoid when not energized.

You may have a short and a solenoid problem?

find out if you have a voltage reducer and how is it wired up if there.....................

Shadowman... Yes I do have a voltage reducer. It's 48v primary 12v secondary for the lights. Primary is wired across the battery packs. Think that could be the problem?

if its not to hard you can try disconnecting it and see if voltage goes away....i seem to see this sometimes on carts with certain reducers but i,m not certain of the cause.................

Shadowman.... I disconnected the voltage reducer. It didn't help. Any other suggestions on correcting this problem? Could the solinoids be grounded?

it could be almost anything... i think the best thing to do is anything you can disconnect do one thing at a time just the things you feel comfortable doing .......just a process of elimination to see if it can be found........take your time........................

I had the same problem with our Precedent. Turned out to be the turn signal switch that was mounted to the steering column . . . . metal switch, metal hose calmp, metal column.

Insulated the clamp, and we be kool!

I am ASSUMING that you have cleaned and dried the battery outer cases and removed any corrosion so that your meter is not picking up cross over from batterys posts to battery supports? Then follow SHADOWMAN, SCOTTYB and CARGUY and eliminate possible causes one at a time.

OLD MEC nailed it... it's called Battery Bleed-Through. Clean them up really good and re-check. You may even have to remove them for a good cleaning.
