Unhappy 92 electric club cart got very hot behind the seat.

I have a 92 electric club cart with the resistor coil. We replaced the batteries. But when we drove it the coils behind the seat got very hot also the back of the controller caught on fire and it like to go by itself when the key is in it. I will post pics in about a hour. Thanks for any help in advance. Lindsay

I'll Copy and paste my first guess here and waiting for pics

I think You have a resistor coil cart.
The V-glide may be melted. Not returning to zero
The solenoid may be welded closed
You need to disconnect the battery mains and investigate these things

No problem Is there a row of metal coils behind the batteries? They might be under a heat shield....

Yes there is a row of coils behind the battery.
