2003 Pathway cutting out
I just picked up a 2003 CC Utility/Runabout. This is one of the Pathway style carts with the full NEV package and roll over protection. I purchased this cart from a LA area Junior College.
I have quite a bit of experience with series carts, but this is my first cart with a shunt motor. I have a charging question and a problem I need help with: It did not come with a charger. I have a 5 amp 48 volt charger, so I used that to charge the batteries. I was able to get 5 to 8.3 volts, one would only get up to a bit over six. I replaced that battery with a good used one. I have a 48 volt Yamaha charger that I connected with a quick disconnect plug to the battery pack and used that to charge the batteries completely. The batteries are from 2008 and are charging OK. I'm aware CC uses the OBC to regulate the charger; is there any reason why I can't just use the Yamaha charger connected to the pack? I took it out today for the first ride off of the property. After going slightly over a mile, the cart just seemed to lose power. After stopping, I turned the key off and waited a few seconds. Turned it back on and it drove fine for a short distance then slowed way down again. It would go a few feet and stop. Pushing the pedal down two or three times would cause it to go a few more feet before slowling to a few MPH. Any idea where I should start to look to repair this? Thanks for the help! |

Re: 2003 Pathway cutting out
start with batteriesand cables.....make sure cables are clean and tight and check batteries with a load tester and check cells with a hydrometer......what your decribing sounds like a battery issue so get them out of the way 1st.....as for the yamy charger that might be the issue but i,m not 100% certain on this......your batteries may not be getting the required charge and charge time with it........can you borrow a charger to try? if so thats the thing to do................................

Re: 2003 Pathway cutting out
Thanks Shadowman;
I've gone through all of the cables and there all tight and in good shape. The batteries are all over 8 volts, the pack is at 51 volts. They test OK with a 100 amp load test. The cart seems OK for a very short while and then it slows WAY down to a creep. It doesn't completely stop, but pretty close. Pushing the accelerator up and down will make it speed back up for a few seconds and then it goes back to dead slow. I have a brand new MCOR sitting here from a Precedent, it looks the same, should I try that? The cart is completely stock, just for info. |

Re: 2003 Pathway cutting out
OK, after a closer look the Precedent MCOR has a different connection to the throttle; it won't work.
Any troubleshooting steps for this one? If I get the Curtis software connected to the controller can I read faults and get to the source of the problem? |
