Speed Loss going up grade
I have a 1983 DS, 36V
I just place new batteries in and charger works well. Cart goes great on level ground but boggs down on a grade. Was looking at speed switch, or solenoids. Is there a way to test and see what's what? anyother Ideas? |

Re: Speed Loss going up grade
New batteries are typically 70-75% of their potential capacity... they will increase in power with each charge cycle. "Up to 150 cycles" (to quote Trojan battery co)
It is natural for an electric vehicle to loose speed climbing a hill. |

Re: Speed Loss going up grade
Yeah I understand slowing down going up hill but this has got worse. Sometimes if I hit a bump then I get a burst of power back and can actually accelerate up the same grade.
This is what has me thinking about a bad switch or sticky solenoid. Just do not know how to test. |

Re: Speed Loss going up grade
check all your cable connections all of them make sure you don,t have a cable coming loose......if your hitting a bump and its changing things theres a chance something is coming loose......soleniod shouldn,t effect this..........................

Re: Speed Loss going up grade
I am going to take batteries out and inspect each and every wire and connection.
It did it to me again last night, acting real sluggish. I went over a root and "BAM" I had a super cart with all the power you could expect. So something is deffinitely loose or sticky somewhere. |

Re: Speed Loss going up grade
one way to "test" is to check for heat... after a run around the block, use a IR thermometer (or carefully with your hand) and check the cables, connections, etc. if anything is noticeably beyond ambient temps, that item needs attention.

Re: Speed Loss going up grade
found some wires leading to and the last solenoid in line that were pretty warm after a run around.
Did not find anything physically loose yet, but could have some underlying corrosion making a bad connection. Going to order a new solenoid and replace the hot one. |
