Default 96 CC 48v Motor guide ring???

I am new to this site and appreciate the knowledge you share that I'm sure will help me improve my cart.
I have the dreaded "clicking" sound from the motor on cruise and deceleration which sounds very much like I need to change out the guide ring. An earlier post shows the "tool" to do this with - a transaxle input shaft modified - but these cost $240!! Is there an equally effective way of making sure the splines are properly aligned without spending this $240?
Next will be to upgrade the wire gauge to #4, then brake overhaul. Not too complicated yet but I'm sure it will be before long.
Many thanks to all contributors.

i might be wrong but i don,t think your gonna have to go thur all of that to put a new guide ring on input shaft..............the new ring is grooved for the shaft and the other part is nothing special .....i,m trying to figure what they are talking about with the armature shaft i think thats where you would have an issue but not with the imput shaft..........................

Thanks SM, actually its the other "guide ring" (part # 101789101) - the one that goes in the armature, not the one that slides onto the input shaft. From what I can make out from the thumbnail, it has internal splines that must align with internal splines in the armature shaft. I can see how the input shaft can be used to make both splines line up but **** its expensive unless someone has a junker

as soon as I get the guide ring, I will get back to you. I follow what you are saying but do you think I can take the input shaft out of the tranny to perform this or do you think I have to do it with the input shaft in place and move the motor on to the shaft. The thumbnail assumes we have a spare shaft or at least that's the way I read it.
thanks for your patience Shadowman

10-4 Tom; btw I only ordered the parts last night and it will take the best part of a week to get here so there's no urgency. The cart has been "rattling" for some time now according to the old owner (I just bought it this week) and there's no sign of it damaging anything (fingers crossed). I also have to tackle the problem of getting the old ring out. Where are you located Tom? I am in northern New Mexico near the CO border.
regards, Gerald
