Default Solenoid Terminal Melted

Cart stopped while kid was driving it. He pushed it to the house and called me. When I raised the seat the first thing I see is a terminal post is missing on top of the solenoid. I followed the wiring and found it in the bottom of the battery box still attached to the wire. I have a new solenoid ordered. My question is "What caused the solenoid to get hot enough to melt and the terminal fall off"? Any advice is appreciated.
2004 36V Club Car
The solenoid is the one with two large terminals on top and two small terminals at the bottom on same side.

Thanks.

If you have a modified cart with a stock solenoid and controller things may be getting a little hot. An upgraded solenoid would have been a good choice

So it appears maybe no other problem caused it as in another component failed?
Thanks.

Probably is ~ ask the kid what he was doing when it just stopped

Anyway it was a contact failure so a new solenoid should fix it

Disconnect the batteries before installing

Thanks Scotty. The relay on the charger took care of that issue just as you said. I will replace the solenoid and go. I have my suspicions about what the kid was doing. The cart is primarily ridden by a 10 yr. old girl. Her 16 yr. old brother was in it when it broke down. Wouldn't put it past him to hold the brake and try to "tach" it up and spin the wheels. Can't prove it though.

Thanks again.

That will cost you a controller and possibly a motor if he keeps doing it

Thanks for the info on the controller and motor risk if abused. I will pass on the warning. I don't have any control over it but I will advise them of what expenses could be incurred if it is abused. I'm just the jack leg repair man that's trying to help.
