Battery Issue

While riding this evening the cart felt a little sluggish so I pulled it into the garage and started checking voltages on the pack and each individual battery. Found battery 1 which is where the controller gets positive feed is showing around 0.6 volts. All others check out in the 8.4 to 8.5 range. I left the meter attached to the problem battery and noticed as it rested the voltage began to come back up ever so slow.

These are brand new Trojans purchased last month and stamped E1.

Water levels are checked and topped off as needed every 2 weeks with distilled water.

Any ideas besides contacting Trojan or the purchase location for a warranty replacement?

Check to see that they were wired correctly then the dealer where you bought them will gladly exchange it for a new one.

All wiring is correct. Nothing is connected to this battery besides the positive lead to controller on the positive post and the negative lead/post to the next battery in the series.

I will contact the dealer for a replacement. Hopefully they will load test it for me too and we can rule out any other issue.

You can't load test a battery with 0.6v, it's a dead cell or 2.

It comes back to 4.x volts after it rests for awhile. ;)

Going to take it Monday for warranty replacement.

Dealer stated it just needed to be charged with a standard charger because it was dead (ya think!). Told him it will take a charge, but is dead in less than 3 minutes. He said he would have to charge it up himself overnight and load test it tomorrow. What fun... how much you want to bet he tells me tomorrow it's fine only for me to get it back home, installed, and find out otherwise. Oh well, guess we have to follow procedure.

Based on your previous posts, if he charges it and load tests it will fail, no sweat.

i have to agree it will fail but i have to say i,m impressed the cart even moved with a battery reading .6 of a volt..........................

So riddle me this...

The battery was replaced and all was good again. However today the exact same battery I just had replaced is only taking a charge upto around 7.9 volts. All others are fine.

Could I really have that bad of luck? 2 bad batteries in a row? What are the chances!

Could this be anything else? Or possibly just bad luck?
