Daytime Running Lights ?

I have some really nice LED lights that I would like to wire as Daytime Running Lights (DRL) on my '98 DS. They only draw about .9W each so the draw is not enough to kill my batteries. They are rated at 9-33V so I currently have them wired across three 8V batteries and fuse and toggle switch and work great.

How could I wire these so that they come on with the key switch itself? I can't use the full 48V for the DRL's, so what are my options?

Any help would be appreciated!

Best option would be a voltage reducer. Get the reducers + feed from the key switch. This would power up the reducer only when you turn the key to ON and make your DRL come on as well.

Also if you plan to add other accessories later down the road you have the reducer in place and ready. There is a nice 25 amp reducer (which is plenty for lights, DRL, radio, ect) at a BGW sponsor for around $100 right now.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I am not really looking to spend $100 just to wire some lights up. I can keep flipping the switch on and off manually for free.

Since these lights are multi-voltage, is there any way to pull just 16V, 24V, or 32V from the switch or are all of the outputs 48V?

your switch voltage is determined by where you have the lead wire, run it across two batteries and you have that voltage, ECT, but like said above , the reducer is the "right" way to go.

You didn't specify what cart you have so you'll have to check your key switch with a meter but mine is 48 volts. I think your out of luck without using a reducer. I checked around and can't find a DC to DC regulator that will step 48 volts down to your required voltage. Best I could find was 48 volts to 40 volts @ 1 amp.

Looks like you'll have to flip your free switch!

get a 48 volt relay and power it from the keyswitch, take the 2 wires you currently have on the toggle switch and place them on the load side of the relay.

now, whenever you turn on the key, your lights will come on..... you can find the 48 volt relay fairly cheap at one of our sponsors.

you can wire the lights in series! you'll get around 25V per light.
