95 C.C. rewired to 4ga
Hello, just rewired most of cart to 4ga. When I plug it in, the resistor connected to the 2 large posts on new upgraded solonoid gets extremely Hot. p/n 1014947. Solonoid p/n 1018836-01. Is it because I need larger diode and resister? How can I tell which terminal on solonoid to face the diode grey band towards? just trial and error? Also I am unable to find a purple color coded wire that the electrical schematic shows going from potentiometer to B- on the controller with the red/white lead.Otherwise I think I am done?! Thanks jack

band to +++Positive side you can blow the OBC to solenoid if connected backwards.

Re: 95 C.C. rewired to 4ga
The OBC grounds the coil of the solenoid there are drivers in the OBC that sink to ground.
If the Diode is connect backwards you are Putting 48 volts direct to the ground side of the coil when the OBC turns on (grounds) the diode could put enough current on that driver to blow it, then you would have to jump it to make it run. The coil of the solenoid has enough resistance so it is just part of the circuit not a short circuit. Again could may not happen all the time but once is all you need and we are not talking about the charging side of the OBC only the run side. does that sound about right?? |

Re: 95 C.C. rewired to 4ga
The Diode is in the circuit for Spike suppression when the solenoid coil collapses there can be a high voltage spike riding on the ground side of the wiring the diode shorts this back to the positive side where the same spike is in the other half of the cycle killing the spike.
The Resistor across the terminals is there for arcing of the contacts if there is already some potential there, there will be less arcing and the contacts will last longer |

Jack disconnect the diode and see if the resistor stays cooler

Re: 95 C.C. rewired to 4ga
Thank you for your help!! The micro sw. leads on the top #2 is red/white, #3 outer most is blk.the 3rd row just has green/white most inner connection , mid and outer blank. Yes controller is blk. And the resistor gets hot w/the diode disconnected.

Re: 95 C.C. rewired to 4ga
Just for clarification does the resistor get hot (1) when the switch is on and the accelorator pedal is at rest or (2) when the accelorator is pressed down ?
