Default Lester Charger `82 club car VERY noisy

i have been reading up on noisy chargers as mine is incredibly loud.

when i bought my cart used, i didnt think to try the charger.

it appears to charge ok, but is incredibly noisy. i can hear it half way across the campground.....

i am wondering if there are better ways to charge a 36v bank of batteries, that is silent, and possibly more efficient.

i am not really looking to spend much on another charger, is there not a cheaper, more efficient way to get 36v @ 25amps.

how many kilowatt hours does a charger like mine use in a month?

transformers progressively get noisier as they age. when fresh from the factory, the varnish they are dipped in keeps vibrations to a minimum. as they age, the varnish breaks down and things start wiggling loose.

cheapest route would be to rebuild the charger paying attention to the areas causing the noise. ie: use fresh rubber dampers to mount the transformer, fresh rubber feet for the charger, varnish dips for the transformer.

another option is to just get a cheap switching charger like the protech.

thats like asking how much gas are going to use next month... i have no idea! how often do you use the cart? how far do you go? is all hills and sand or smooth asphalt? is it stock or do you have big wheels/tires and huge motor upgrade?

if you take volts times amps you get watts. so with 115v at the wall times say maybe 6A average will be roughly 700 watts. multiply that times the number of hours it takes to charge and you get kW hours per charge. multiply that times number of charges a month and you'll end up with roughly your kW hours per month.

the noise is because the windings on the transformer are vibrating under power. it is possible to have the windings resealed so that they no longer vibrate as much and would make less noise. Don't ask me how it is done or what materiel to use, I assume such information is available on the internet via a google search. I have had some done in the past as a temporary fix, but I always informed my customers that the noise they were hearing was a good indication that the charger was on it's last legs and they needed to start saving money for a new one..... Without fail, within a year, each customer was in to buy a new charger due to a complete transformer failure.
