Motor Won't Slide Off
I started to swap out the motors tonight and have come across a BIG problem. I disconnected all the cables, and removed the 4 bolts, but it won't slide off. The motor will spin around, but won't slide off. I've tried pulling, tapping, prying, and nothing.
ANY SUGGESTIONS???? PLEASE HELP!!! |

Re: Motor Won't Slide Off
Happens often--Do as ForBruce says, it works with a little hassle. Be SURE and put thin coat of Poly Lube on shaft on re-assembly so this won't happen again.

Re: Motor Won't Slide Off
Dont take off the housing cover... remove the bolts that connect the motor (opposite the speed sensor) then bang the speed sensor side TOWARD the differential using a rubber mallet... sounds strange but it will help loosen the motor.. then pry it back some then bang it again... i was in your same situation and then read about this method on an old post... it worked like a charm..
good luck |

Re: WARNING DOES NOT COMPUTE
seems to me that if the motor was BOTTOMED out when bolted ..then it can go no further when hit in the same direction that the bolts tighten in.....
also would not want to STRESS the gear assembly anyway ...only my opinion.... let us know how the BIG BANG THEORY worked for you .... |

Re: Motor Won't Slide Off
WOW!! This thing is on there good. I may end up having to take it in to someone to fix. Let this be a WARNING to anyone doing a motor upgrade to first see if they can even remove their old motor first!!!

Re: Motor Won't Slide Off
I have never had one of these apart, but I have to ask the obvious question . . . is there a locking setscrew that holds the armature shaft in place? Many things that I have taken apart have had a set screw usually accessible thru an inspection plate on the housing of what the motor is connected to.
