No chips for Club Car. Stock speed will be 14 unless CC programmed to code 4 which would get it to 20. No way to tell CC speed code without driving/GPS or if CC put the warning sticker on.

Easy to get more speed even if it's not programmed to code 4 with a little cash!

Local CC dealer can program for "speed zone" 4 at a cost of about $100 . . I believe the fee associated with the reprogramming is controlled by CC, unless you have a friend that works there, that is . . .

You need a special equipment to change to speed code 4?

Yes, and a special code that CC keeps close to the vest.

It's the cheapest way to gain speed though. The price a CC dealer charges varies by location/dealer but the general rule is $100-$150 for code 4 programming. You have to take the actual cart to the dealer to have this done.

There are others way to gain speed such a controller/motor/larger wheels & tires/etc but that will cost you more than $150.

DS designates the body style, club cars come in two styles DS=older more "classic" design (my favorite) and Presedent= newer style looks more
like a car (hundai sonata in my opinion), more plastic on the Presedent.
IQ refers to the electronics that control the cart, meaning it has a
computer that controls the charging and causes the car to regenerate power from the motor to the batteries and controls downhill speed.
As far as I know all 04' DS's should have the IQ system.

I am buying an '02 DS with IQ but will be putting a "Plum Quick " modified
motor in which is supposed to get me to 25mph with all stock parts in the cart for $225. We shall see : )

Rusty...thanks for that great explanation. BTW I bought the cart today. It looks very nice and drove great with 2 month old Trojan Batteries. Please let me know when you do the motor cause i'll be right behind you with the same exact motor!! I think mine might be set to speed control 2 but I will have to gps the speed. It's not slow but not sure it's doing what speed 3 should give. A local service shop/dealer said he could set it to speed 3 for me if needed for 45 bucks since they don't need a special code from the factory. speed 4 he said would need a code and $150 bucks but for that cost why not buy the new Plum Quick. Cheers!!

WOW,,, I read through most of that thread and it sounds like you have to get a chip from this guy, a resistor from that guy , a transister from this guy, etc. etc. etc.. and then wire it all together.. way out of my league both in time and effort. You would be better served just to pay the money to the club car dealer to go to speed 4. By the way, $150 for this is a ripoff, locally the CC dealer charges $100 to put the code in (OKC area) , which is also a ripoff, but $50 less of one. I will likely pay the $325 for the plum quick motor (no core, will keep old motor for spare) and I might pay the dealer an extra $100 for the code to gain an exta 1-2 mph.. Cheaper than a bigger controller,,, unless I can find a bigger controller off ebay for $300 or so... we'll see.
