Default 1983 electric club car power issue

car barely has enough power to pull small inclines. All brand new batteries purchased were not much help with this issue.

I also have an 83 cc, decent speed in forward, slow speed in reverse if it moves. Inclines I have to get off the cart, have replaced all the batteries and cleaned all connections. Think either motor or limting switches for gas pedal?
any help would be great

Hmmm, The '83 club

Well the cart has a 5 solenoid speed control system... assuming all batteries are good it should give 11-12 mph tops. Performance could be compromised by brush wear or built up resistance in the wiring and directional switch? The components are nearly 30 yrs old... check that all 5 solenoids work and that the cart wheels turn a little faster with the sound of each solenoid Clicking on. Do this on a jack stand and DO NOT rev the motor out WOT to see how fast you can spin the wheels, it will ruin the motor. Just check to see if each click results in a little more giddyup... do it without holding the high speed rpm.
I hope this helps.

First I would like to thank Scottyb for all the info I have already gotten from you in other posts.
I just bought a 1983 Club Car 36volt. I replaced one battery. The rest I tested and are fine. Before the replacement it was slow to go forward and would not go in reverse. After replacement, no forward and slow reverse. I connected all wires using the diagram. I jacked the back to listen for the solenoids but my wheels would not spin unless I started to spin them first then they only go one full rotation and stop. Could be brakes or motor?? Next on my list is to take apart the F&R switch and clean or replace

I can hear all solenoids click when pressing the accelerator in forward and reverse but the wheels still wont spin unless helped then only one rotation.

Replace all 5 of the solenoids if you're unsure of the history. Those things last a long time usually so it's possible they're 20-30 years old. They're not too terribly expensive.
