Default Do I have bad batteries or charger

Newbie here! I just purchased a 2005 DS Club Car 48 volt. Just had a brand new OBC and solenoid installed at dealer because the previous owner said it wouldn't hold a charge. Has 2009 Trojan batteries and a 2000 Powerdrive charger. After charging it goes fine with plenty of power but for only about ten minutes and then I can barely get it back to the house. I seem to have a hard time getting the charger to come on but when it does it will start at about 10 amps, go to 5 amps in about an hour and cut off. Do I have charger problems or battery problems. I have gone through this cycle several times and always the same outcome.

it sounds like the charger is trying to do its job, most cases its a battery problem, what all did the dealer do?.........they need to be load tested and the cells checked, all cables need to be looked at .......battery post all need to be clean as well as cable connections.....2009 trojens would be odd for them to be bad but if they were put in and just forgot about that would make sense...........don,t buy a set yet try and find out for sure and spend some time trying to bring them back...........if they need water use distilled water only and just to above the plates ......can you try your charger on another cart?....................................

You would be best with a draw-down test of the battery pack first to eliminate that part of the equation. If the pack is healthy then I would take a look at the OBC. The charger is just a transformer with no control board, the OBC does all charger control functions.
3 yr old 8 volt batteries could be bad if they had a rough life.

Dealer put in a brand new OBC and solenoid and charged the previous owner 600 bucks for that. When I got it home, the bateery water levels were very low - below the plates on a a couple of cells. I filled all to correct level with distilled water. Maybe one or two of the batteries that had water levels below plates went bad?

What kind of a dealer installs a new obc, doesn't check water levels and runs the charger to test the obc?

I know of no quicker & more sure fire way to kill a battery than to charge it with exposed plates.
A close second would be completely discharging them.

Thanks - I read up on how to do a voltage and hydrometer check - I'll try that first. If i have to get new batteries, what should I expect to pay for six 8volt trojans?

$100-120 each depending upon your location and proximity to a distributor.

Exactly - I couldn't believe it either. Previous owner was already mad over the price - wait until I tell him the batteries weren't even checked for his 600 dollars. I will definitely not be using this dealer.
