Got one that stumped Lester electrical.
I have a 1997 48V club car. The batteries were about shot when I bought it. I would only run about 10 minutes. Finally got where it would not charge at all.
I bought new batteries, got new 2awg cables on all of them. After running the new batteries down a little. the charger would not come on. The batteries were plenty hot to kick on the charger, (45 volts). Was told it was the OBC. Ordered a new OBC. Installed it. All the wiring was identical to the old one. The only difference is the new module does not have the 3/4" protrusion in the front of it, but was gauranteed it was the right OBC by a long time golf cart part business near me. After installing the new OBC the charger will initially come on to calibrate. It runs for about 30 seconds shuts down and never comes back on to charge the batteries. I have checked the charger with two other carts and it works great. Any ideas?????? I am thinking I got hold of a bad OBC out of the box. Thanks, Aoperator |

You sure your charger recepticle is good? Make sure that there isn't any loose connections - Just a thought. Yes, there is a slight chance your OBC could be bad, where did you order it from?

Re: Got one that stumped Lester electrical.
My mind went straight to loose connections from the receptacle. Check the fuse on top of the receptacle as well. If I'm not mistaken the OBC could be triggering it to turn on, but then the fuse on top could prevent it from giving a charge.

Re: Got one that stumped Lester electrical.
The fuse on top of the receptacal is fine. Everything is tight on back of the receptacal. The charger works great on other club cars. :-( just like it use to work on this one. Ordered the OBC from Alabama golf carts in Athens Alabama.
I was told this afternoon by a guy who sells a ton of used carts that they have had several new OBC come out of the box bad. |

How can I bypass the OBC on this cart? (I have already tried the wire from the small post (yellow wire connection) on the solenoid) to (the negative terminal on the last battery going to the motor). The charger did the same thing as before. Came on for about 30 seconds to calibrate and then shuts down. It will not come back on until everything is disconnected and you start the entire process over again. |

I am having exactly the same problem with the charger going into calibrate mode. Thinks about it for a while then shuts down without having registered any charging current. I was suspecting the SCR in the OBC not being turned on. Did you have any success with aquiring a schematic for the OBC?

Re: Got one that stumped Lester electrical.
its possible its in the charge receptical itself.......or when you changed cables did you run the cable thur the OBC? if not thats your problem the battery cable has to go thur the OBC................................
