48 volt radio install.(8v batts) need extra 12 or what?

i have a club car ds 2001 48 volt and am looking to install my radio tom. Do i need to run a extra 12 volt? if so where could i put it? seems pretty full... or is a voltage reducer a better idea and do they sell them at local auto stores etc? thanks!

reducer is a god way to go but you,ll have to get it from someplace that sells GC parts..............you can also use a 12 volt battery but finding a place for it and than the extra charger ......i say reducer....................

Do your homework, here or elsewhere, on a reducer if you go that route. Get one that pushes enough amps to run what you want to run and make sure it can be switched off or add a switch to it and switch it off when not in use. I bought a reducer initially but decided not to use one based on my needs vs. what I've read around here. Bottom line was my kids use the cart a lot and I was afraid they'd forget to switch it off and something would get fried or worse. I went with the extra 12v battery instead. I had an otherwise worthless space to put it (under the rear seat behind the supports, in the bag well) and keeping an extra charger right beside my cart charger was no big deal for me. When at home, in the 'hood, we use the lights and even the radio rarely and for only short periods. So, I don't have to charge the extra battery as often as the cart. When at the campground, it's just the opposite, the cart gets used a lot as well as the lights and radio. So, I just keep everything in a handy place and just plug it all up every night. Either method works, just choose what is right for you.

Since I have a 4x12v setup, my range is shorter than a 6x8v cart anyway. So, anything I could do to not draw any extra power off the pack and leave all of the juice for the cart itself was the way to go.
