light kit install safety
My first upgrade to newly purchased (1st cart) 07 Precedent willl be a basic light kit - no turn or horn - just the 2 rear lights and lower front bar light. I know where the wires should be when I open the dash up and drill into the back. 2 questions I have are :
1. Should I switch the control to TOW mode before any electrical and do I need to disconnect the main battery ground or anything ? 2. Will the kit (picking up Saturday) harness and dash harness have connectors ready to plug together or will I need to be ready with crimpers or soldering iron " How is the key switch pin connected to (I know I use the one hot when switch is on) thanks |

Re: light kit install safety
anytime your gonna take the dash off you need to make sure you do everything to disconnect power......have seen more than once the rear of the keyswitch come in contact with the metal there and fry everything from the front back to the controler and motor wires and cables.....does lots of damage in a very short time..................................

For question 2 - looks like you are getting the same kit I got or 1 made just like it. It says it works with factory harness. That means it should come with one fused line that plugs into the blue wire on battery 4 and the other end to the wiring down around the controller. No cutting and splicing needed there. The rear lights will just plug into the harness connectors hidden in the body that you'll find after drilling the holes. And the front light will plug into a harness connector behind the dash. Again, no cutting/splicing needed. Just drill the little hole in the dash for the light switch, mount it, and you are good to go. The only thing that was a little bit of a pain for me was getting the mounting holes on the new bumper/light assembly to line up just right on both sides. But an extra pair of hands to push and hold while the other fastens the bolt, and should be no big deal. |
