Talking Need More Power

Hi...Just bought a 97 Club Car. Seems to work great except on long hills where it slows to a crawl. Anyone have ideas as to what can be done to add more power? Thanks

what you are looking for is more torque. since torque is a function of current, you need to look at what might be inhibiting the flow of current.

first, what kinda of condition are your batteries in? old crappy batteries cannot deliver as much current as new beefy batteries.
2 - have you upgraded the cables? think of these as straws. now imagine trying to drink a Big Gulp through a coffee stirrer. not too effective right? corroded ends are like pinched ends on a straw. so... you want big straws, no pinches!
3 - current = amps. how many amps is your controller capable of delivering? 225a? a 500amp controller can deliver over twice that much current. aka: twice as much available torque!

Hi Sonicj...thanks for the input. I'm new to Golf Cars and need all the help I can get. The batteries are clean but they are 4 years old. The cables were replaced in 07(have the receipts) with "NC CABLE 14" as description. They seem clean. I do about 10mph on the flats but crawl up long hills. I have no idea about the controller, I assume it may be original (97). How can I determine the controller amps?
Thanks again!

not sure what NC CABLE 14 is but clean is good. i would up grade to 4awg or better if they are only 6awg cables.

amperage for the controller should be listed on the name plate.

nick731, 4awg should be sufficient for most.

thanks sonic. I was refering specifically to how much cable one would need to run from the motor the the foward/reverse switch. I have 4g on all batteries and and to obc but from what i understand my weak linkg is still the 6 wire going to the motor..is this right? thanks again, Nick

ohh.. my bad! uhmm.... im not totally sure since i replaced my f&r switch with a reversing contactor. i would guess around 4ft per piece x 4 pieces... 16' or so. probably best to measure before you place a order.

Thanks Sonicj. I have to put my batteries on a DVM this weekend. I'll look at the cables and the controller at that time and see if these are my issues. Thanks again!
