48v Powerdrive Club Car plug swap to Crowfoot - HELP
Ok, so here's the scoop...
I bought this Older Club Car at an auction a few months ago. After my kids ran down the batteries we discovered it came with the wrong charger. It's a 48v Powerdrive charger, Club Car. I assumed that it would work for my golf cart if I just swapped out the plug to a crowfoot from a round. I just got the crowfoot adapter in the mail today. However, AFTER I cut the other adapter off, I noticed there are three wires (1 blue, 1 red, 1 black)... so now I am stuck. The crowfoot only has two connections, a positive and a negative. Red is positive, and black is negative right? but wth do I do with the blue wire? PLEASE HELP... kids are driving me nuts to have the cart back... |

Re: 48v Powerdrive Club Car plug swap to Crowfoot - HELP
THe reason there are 2 very different styles of plugs is because the round 3 wire is for 48v carts with an on board computer and the crows foot was for the older 36v carts without OBC...... so I do see a scenario where you would be changing these plugs?

Re: 48v Powerdrive Club Car plug swap to Crowfoot - HELP
Need some more information on the cart before I can tell you the best thing to do. I understand you want to swap the plug but I don't understand why. If you've got a 48V Club Car like you say, you shouldn't need to swap to a crowsfoot. The powerdrive charger should plug right into the current receptacle. Let me know a little bit more about what you're working with.

Thanks for jumping in guys, my Club Car is an '87. So I don't think it has an OBC. Can I still convert the charger?

Re: 48v Powerdrive Club Car plug swap to Crowfoot - HELP
The 36v carts like your 1987 is used a stand alone charger. The charger has a circuit board that tells it how much to charge and when to shut off.
The round plug charger in your possession is a 48 volt charger used with a more modern cart with an on board computer which controls the charging so 2 problems.... 1 the cart is 36v and the round plug charger is 48v. 2 the round plug 48v charger cannot work without the on board computer in the modern cart. I hope this helps. |

Re: 48v Powerdrive Club Car plug swap to Crowfoot - HELP
I guess it does... So you are telling me I need to buy a new charger. Dang. Any idea where to get a good deal on one? Rather, which one to buy out here on the WWW that is a good buy and not a budget buster. There's a TON to choose from.
Thanks for your help Scotty B. |

Would it be less expensive to add an OBC to my cart? Is this even possible?

The good news is you can sell the 48v charger and recoup some of the expense. Can you find a used 36v charger with the Crows Foot plug on it on your local Craigslist?
NO you can not and remember it is the wrong voltage! You need 36 volts. |

Re: 48v Powerdrive Club Car plug swap to Crowfoot - HELP
Unfortnately, I chopped off the round plug already, so I doubt I can sell it. I checked craigslist, but only one "generic" charger came
Up. Do you know if there is a special brand I need? Special requirements I should look for? |

Re: 48v Powerdrive Club Car plug swap to Crowfoot - HELP
A golf cart shop might have one and they will take your's in on some trade..
I have to ask because carts do get modified over the years.... how many fill holes are in the top of each battery? How many batteries are in it? |
