Default Charge in Tow or Run Mode?

Quick question: On a DS IQ Regen, can you charge batteries in Tow mode or does it have to be in Run mode or does it matter either way?

Thanks

It doesn't really matter. I've always charged in Run.

Thanks guys - sounds like it really doesn't matter either way. I guess leaving it in Run mode would use a minimal amount of voltage and leaving it in Tow mode would mean you would have to remember to switch it back before you can just hop in and go - depends on your preference I guess!

The On Board Computer is always on regardless of the Tow/Run switch position since its what controls the charger as well as locking out the vehicles control circuit. The controller is separtate from the OBC.

Your cart should have warning labels on your vehicle including one by the Tow/Run switch. They state the following for using your Tow/Run switch, none of which is charging your battery:

Do not store items in battery compartment.
Place Run/Tow switch in TOW position before performing any of the following:
- Disconnecting or connecting battery cables
- Towing this vehicle
- Extended storage
- Servicing the vehicle

as well as another label showing the following:

Place Run/Tow switch in TOW position before performing any of the following:
- Disconnecting or connecting battery cables
- Towing this vehicle
- Extended storage
- Servicing the vehicle
• Do not store items in battery compartment.
• Do not operate vehicle without the cover properly installed.
• Keep electronic components dry.
• See vehicle maintenance and service manual before servicing.

Not Exactly but close enough for BINGO and stickers

Section 11 of IQ manual
• Tow/Run Switch: When the Tow/Run switch is in the RUN position, the vehicle will function normally.
When the switch is in the TOW position, power to the OBC and controller is shut off, disabling the vehicle operating circuit.

Charge function of Obc is not effected!! its really your choice 6 of one and 1/2 dozen of the other.

On my 96 DS regen II, I always put it in "Tow"... only because, my campground has had a history of electrical surges,
and I just figured that there would be less to "fry" that way.

I have since gone to a gasser, so the only thing I have to worry about now, is a "direct" lightning strike! (or a tree falling on it)

gaminde... ease up on the "technicalities"... there are allot of "toes" here that you shouldn't be stepping on!

your very correct! !! But was the bingo comment necessary did it add anything to this thread or was it just more negitive prodding. Remember i asked a question about the site being down and got answers that had no positive info, infact i have no idea what they were even talking about fixer and bu ???? And my education? ?? And them being hicks or good ol boys something, I was born a hillbilly so what. I worked on medical equiptment most of my life i couldn't affortd to guess it had to be right, would you want to have surgery with some of these people working on the equipment, after 30+ years of doing it the right way its hard to change.
