Default 1st cart What do I need to know?

Its a 2005 Precedent. It has 2008 Trojans. What kind of things do I need to know about it? Do they come from the factory with a speed limiter? I know almost nothing about carts.

Welcome and with sparkys, it is all about the batteries. Keep them clean and watered and charged. Club Cars come from the factory set to run at 14mph. They can run faster if you can get someone with the programmer to change the code or just update the controller which you will eventually do anyway.

Have fun

I guess I'm one of "the guys" that Shadow is talking about, although, I'm far from being "thee guy". In other words, I'm learning with the help of this forum as well.

But, my cart is very similar to what you describe, except mine is an 06 with 08 batteries.

First off, I'd recommend you spend a few bucks on two things:
- Battery tester (multimeter), you can spend a little or a lot on one of these but you'll want something you can take readings off your batteries and the pack with
- Hydrometer, also for testing your batteries and individual cells

Keep a gallon of distilled water and a funnel on hand. As noted, take a few minutes periodically to check and fill your batteries and charge them properly.

As for the speed, the precedents have programmable speed settings but you need access to a programmer to change them and the highest setting requires a special code to be purchased from club car before it can be programmed in. It doesn't make financial sense to buy your own programmer, so that probably means finding a dealer that has one, which means you'll pay a fee, most likely.

Adding bigger tires can increase your speed as well. Mine was running about 14mph and change with stock settings and stock tires. After adding the 23" tires, according to my gps based speedometer iphone app, I'm clicking along at 16.5 - 16.7mph now with no programming changes.

thanks for the replies. i have a multimeter and have bought distilled water. As for the speed i think I'll save my $$$ for a better motor, lift, and tires. I own 3 different brands of jeeps and all have lifts of some sort so I'm pretty good with a wrench. I've just never messed with anything that runs on electricity. So I'm learning something new.

Lifting your cart won't be as involved as a Jeep - unless you make your own lift somehow. The kits are simple to install.

Sounds like you've got a handle on things. Just take care of the batteries properly and you'll be fine.
