Default 48v Club Car - Won't move

A local engine shop brought a golf cart over after installing a new motor and they couldn't get it to move. All the wires were disconnected from the F/R Switch and controller. I've followed the wiring schematic in our service manual and the cart refuses to move. When I check the voltage for the entire pack, its registering ~36v by itself and ~44v while charging.

Could the low voltage be causing it to not budge, or is there possibly some other underlying problem?

Also, we left it charging overnight and it only raised MAYBE 2 volts. The charger and the batteries were extremely hot when we checked them this morning.

in a nutshell, yes. imo, what you are describing sounds like old, sulfated batteries. have you measured the voltage of each individual cell? is there sufficient water in all of the cells? a SG test with a hydrometer should shed some more light on the condition of the cells.

I'm curious, do you have 6v batteries in a 48v cart there?

It's a 48v Powerdrive system. I didn't even think about the batteries being 6 volt, mainly because they had no voltage markings on them. I just ran the model # and they are indeed 6 volt batteries. Sounds like we've found the problem..or at least the start of it.

I have seen that before... the 48v charger will cook those batts but they can only hold so much and then the drive system wants more!

Good Luck, now.
