Default 97 Regen convertion?

Bought a 97 CC from a friend after he had put batteries in it 2 yrs. ago then a new motor (Advanced Motors & Drives GGO-4001) a year ago. He had got it for his dad then his dad got sick and it didn't charge durring the winter and the batteries were shot. I got new batteries and it worked' went about 25mph for a while but it stoped working a couple times and won't work at all now! The charger or computer were questionable as it never seemed to charge quite right. Charger would only click on then go right to trickle and charge light would usually stay on. When it all quit working I could smell hot electric and found one hot spot on one of the regen 1 controller posts. (I can still smell it when close. I believe I need a new controller and a computer. My question is since I all ready have a new motor can I convert it to a Sepex IQ with just a controller and a computer and maybe a different solenoid, and maybe some wiring harness? And oh yeah, it doesn't have a run tow switch but it does have one of those throttles that Are curved with copper slotted bars in it ( Potentialmeter )? Can this be done without breakin the farm?:help

Forum needs complete serial number under passenger glove box to speed up helping you with problems. Also do you have a stock Club Car Power Drive #17930 charger and are you talking about dash light or light on charger staying on?
The conversion to IQ depends alot on if you can keep the speed sensor mounted on outboard end of your replacement motor? Speed sensors through the years are made differently so if yours will work is unknown to me?
The throttle you have sounds like its a "V Glide" unit ( "PIE SHAPED" ) mounted under drivers seat between batterys ) with small electronic resistors on back side which is not as smooth operating but does a fairly good job.
You need a digital volt-ohm meter to run some tests as your problem many only be some thing as simple as a micro switch or wiring?

Thanks Old Mec, Your at least giving me some hope!
Club Car SN: A9727-582610

Controller: GE R-12 2D RO6 Catalog No. EV4L48XB2

Computer: Lester 18300

Charger: Club Car Powerdrive 17930-11

The light I am refering to is the dash light. The motor has a speed sensor that appears to be bolt on the end of the motor. It has three wires Red, Green and Black with a conection plug about four inches or so out. Also there is no run tow switch (maybe common with regen 1 controller)?

I did call the manufacturer of the motor (Advanced Motors and Drives) and was told the motor was was for a regen 1 controller and it has about 5 hp on the motor it says:
Rating AU2500 5-4-10 48v class H SN:166

Ohms upside down U kinds is resistance, and DCV, and DCV settings. No power for ohms, and dcv for checking volts power on

Always start with basics and first remove ground cable at drivers side rear battery and tape end so no connection can be made, then do the same at plus end on passenger side. Now check and clean all battery connections, then with digital volt meter set for voltages needed test voltage on each battery ( 8.49 volts ) and then total pack voltage of ( 50.96 volts ) and record each for forums info, NOTE this can be done without removing anymore cables.
On your charger operation can you get ahold of another 48 volt charger and see if it works correctly? After replacing all cables and cart still is not charging correctly remove 3/8 fuse inline of "gray wire" on back of charger receptical and ground receptical wire end to #6 battery ground ( drivers side rear battery ground ) charger should then give 10-15 amps on meter. ( DO NOT ATTEMPT CHARGING BATTERY PACK AS DAMAGE CAN BE DONE BY OVER CHARGING ) This means OBC is bad and needs replacing.
Run-Tow switches were not used until mid year 2001 on IQ models only if I remember correctly?
The dash light is indicating that the batterys are not being charged up correctly and or you have a problem.
During the 1997 period CC made lots of electrical parts changes but you seem to have a Regen 1??

Thanks OLD MEC, I tested the batteries they ranged from 8.08v-8.14v and ended up with 47v if my eyes were right on the total. I was kinda out of eye reach, but I'm pretty sure that number is right.
I then grounded the grey wire at the fuse holder on the chargeing receptical to the last battery and the the charger would click on but the needle never moved and could hear a faint hum. Then I re-hooked the wiring to original tried the charger and never got a click or hum. Did it twice, both ways with same results. Grounding the grey at the charge receptical gets a click, no needle action and a faint hum. Running the grey wire normal gets me nothing! Bad computer eh? I might be able to take my charger some where tomorow but I have a funeral to attend. I'll see how the day plays out. Thanks again!

Go to STICKIES under "COMPLETE MANUAL FOR POWERDRIVE CHARGERS" as it sounds like you have more than one problem ( possible OBC and Charger? ) and the test procedures in manual will take you to the answers. The charger if running correctly should have started to shown on the meter when gray wire was grounded and relay inside charger clicked on.

Hey OLD MEC, I did get a chance to take my charger to someone that had a cart. Pluged her in and it clicked on, the needle jumped up mid-way for a second or two droped back down then clicked on again and seemed to be charging that cart fine. So I'm wondering maybe I should check the cart charging receptical real good tomorrow. I think I'll take it apart and put it back together see if anythig looks stupid in there... what do you think? If thats all fine the computers probably shot eh? Then, is there away to check the controller that gives me an indication if it's shot also? It does smell burnt ever since the cart quit! Did find while looking for compatable parts for the regen1 controller a guy Tim at nivel that designed a interface cable/harness adapter it's ( nivel 339) so one might be able to use a regen 2 controller in a regen 1 cart they are testing it as we speak. Said it should be available at Buggies unlimited or Cartzone soon. If I do end up needing a controller and computer what do you think of going that way? Risky?
