Default Products that claim to make old batteries like new?

Today while I was searching for battery prices I stumbled onto several products that claimed to restore "older" or discharged batteries to new-like quality. To avoid litigation I'm not going to post any names of these products, but I will say that some claim to work by running a broader wave of electricity through the battery and others use chemicals. Both claim to clean residue left on the lead-plate that regular charging cannot, and to return the electrolyte solution to it's original sulfuric acid state. So, I guess, my question is; Has anyone tried these products, and if so what kind of results did you get?

My theory is while there is an ounce of truth to all of their claims, all of it together does not add up to a pound of cure. One or more of the 'solutions' may extend the life of an aging otherwise good battery. But no amount of any or all of it will rejuvenate a dead battery. Most batteries that die of old age have heavily sulfated plates and diminished plate material.
If the cures you read about worked, would any of us be buying new batteries? Hmmmmm?

I heard snake oil works well, but it's tough to get the snake to cooperate.

hey, its my snake & I'll stroke it however I want . . . . .

But seriously, I tried some of the battery "snake oil", took voltage measurements before & after - for weeks after - and the stuff did not make one bit of difference in the batteries.

Have fun, Dave

HAHAHA!!! That's a good one.

Well out of all the options the only one that sounded as if it would make a bit of diffrence was the one that you have to install. I actually called and asked some questions about it, and the guy I was talking to was pretty straight foward about it's limitations. He told me that it would not bring a totally dead battery back from the abyss. However he said that if the battery was just a little weak that it could help clean some of the build-up off the plate and hopefully in doing so the battery will charge closer to it's peak voltage. Also if installed on new batteries it would help keep some of build-up from forming. More of a preventive maintenance thing. Either way he wasn't making any miracle claims and flat out told me that if my 8V batteries were below 7-6.5V on a full charge that it was to late to do anything about it and the product wouldn't help.

I don't know maybe I'll check it out when I hit the lottery and get a new set of batteries. But I tell you one thing; for around $150 I'm not going to buy anything without a waranty.
