Default 36 to 48 questions

hey guys im new to the boards here and new to electric carts
i have done a good bit of research on converting my cart to 48v but i just want to make sure everything i have read is right

my cart is a 1998 club car electric im thinking its a resistor cart it has 1 solinoid and all the coiled up wires behind the batterys
anyhow the person i bought the cart from already did a motor upgrade
ge 5bc49jb3071 bad boy d380 otherwise its stock
2 year old trojans 36v
im wanting to convert to a 48v system and i know first off i will need six 8v batterys but what solinoid will i need or could you guys tell me where to find one. also my charger is 36v with 2 prongs and the 48 charger has 3?
im very happy with how the cart runs but now would be a good time to sell my batterys and charger while they are still working great and use that money toward my new stuff
keep in mind i use the cart for my camp site never offroad and 90% flat ground

the motor turns 4150 rpms on 36v and 5700 rpms on 48v
wouldnt that be 30%+ for my top speed?

Your calculations are right. You do not want to use the CC 48v charger as it requires the install of an on board computer to run it. You are looking for an aftermarket Lester, DPI, Shauer, Yamaha, Delta Q, Stand alone 48v charger.
Your solenoid will be matched to your controller. Consider just adding 2 6v in the bagwell for 48V

yea i have been thinking of just adding 2 batterys
my big concern is will the added 12volts burn up the resistors or the slide thing controled by the gas pedal?

also you said the solenoid will be matched to the controller? does my cart have a controller? i thought it was just the slide,solenoid and resistors

Sorry, I see what you are saying!
When you said convert I thought you meant convert to Solid state.

You can not add voltage to your resistor coil speed control cart. It will flat burn something up sooner or later, likely pretty soon.

Do some more research on controller conversions and solid state conversions to see what all is involved.

if your gonna convert to 48 volt you,ll need to get rid of the resistor setup and go with a controller and pot box....you,ll be much happier.............you,ll need a controller, a potbox, a 48 volt soleniod, upgrade the F&R to heavy duty........you already know about the batteries and charger and also upgrade complete cable set to 4 gage........all cables not just battery cables...............its not a hard job and scotty sells everything you,ll need and with his directions its idiot proof beleive me i know.................i just did one a month or so ago...........................................

how much will i be looking to spend not counting the batterys and charger

Having problem with 2001 Club Cart. The charger was tripping off after "on" for approx. 1 minute. Service person said the problem was a weak battery. Installed 6 new batteries. Reboot the OBC but still have problem. The light on the dash comes On when charger trips. The light goes off when the switch is turned on. After runing the cart, the light come on a stays on.
The cart is 48volts.
Is the problem the charger or the OBC?
