Precedent or DS? What's best?
I am considering the purchase of a golf cart. I hope this isn't like the 2 fun times you have with a boat. I plan to use this around the neighborhood mostly and a little near the beach. I chose the club car because of its aluminum frame and because I think it's overall a better quality product than the EZ GO. I am leaning towards the Precedent but hear that the 4 batteries don't last but a couple of years and there are/have been problems with the two controllers. I do will not use this off road and do not really want a lifted product. I just want a good solid product that won't give me a lot of headaches. Maybe too much to ask. Any thoughts on the differences between these 2 products? Thanks for any and all opinions!

Re: Precedent or DS? What's best?
It's all personal preference really. I've been the head technician at a Club Car dealership in Augusta, GA for 10 years now and I'm a Precedent guy. The DS is a great platform as well though. Love them both. You're right about the 4 12 volt battery setup. It's nowhere near as good as the 6 8Volt setup. But lots of people are under the impression that this is a "Precedent only" design. Not true. The 2006-2009 DS cars all had 4 12's as well. In mid to late 2008 the 8 Volt option became "optional" In mid 2008, the Precedent battery bucket changed and made more room to allow the use of 6 8 volt batteries. Even though it may not be currently equipped with them, they'll drop right in. In 2010 the 8 volts became the only option available on both cars.

Re: Precedent or DS? What's best?
I went with the Precedent because of the styling of the body. Mine has the four 12v batteries and they have served me well. The overall engineering of the cart is extremely impressive and well built. There seems to be more bolt on accessories for the DS but I prefer to go a little custom anyways. And don't worry about not using it more than two times, I hop on mine every chance I get.

Re: Precedent or DS? What's best?
I don't have nearly the experience that T-Dawg would, but I have a 2004 Precedent and I love it and the styling is great. I am sure the DS is a good option as well. I had a Yamaha before that served me very well so I like them.
The Club Car does seem to be a preferred option by many, but all brands will serve you well! Just my opinion Welcome to the forum! |

Club Cars are great to me. Have a 95 and 97 DS like them both one is a regen, other series. I thonk the DS is nicer choice but get what you want.

Re: Precedent or DS? What's best?
Thanks for the reply and info. Are you aware of any recurring issues with the controllers on 08 and 09 models? I have also given thought to purchasing a gas Precedent but that's more $'s up front but apparently less $'s in the long run. I also looked at buying a remanufactured Club car (from IR) for the 2 year warranty but the dealers I've spoken with try to steer you away from this..for obvious reasons. The selection in my area is not too good so I may have to travel to find a decent cart. I live in NC. It's a little scary to see all of the problems folks have with their cart...that's why I prefer the longer warranty. Any tips/thoughts you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

There is no difference in the controller on any model Precedent or DS IQ. Theyre all the same and it's a good quality component
