To lift or not....that is the ? !!!!

I am buying a Club car Precedent, my first cart. I'm debating to lift it but sure hate to spend the $'s. A 2008 with new 8 volt batteries and flip rear seat will run me about 3K or so, not counting the lift. In the event I decide to lift, are there downsides to lifting? Stability? Safety? Other? Thanks for all comments!

08 Precedents here sell for about $2,850 so thats in the ballpark. A good 3" lift like Allsport will run you about $350 and if you get new wheels and tires, another $550-???????? Lifted carts are just fine but even a stock cart will flip if you drive it like you stole it!

the only reason not to lift it, is if you were going to do something stupid with it. like, play golf, or somethin

This is mine with no lift and 10" wheels with lowpro tires. I am thinking about a 3" Allsport A-arm lift. My DS has a 7.5" lift. As you can see from the picture that I don't have many neighbors! : )

Lift it Mine has 10" wheels and a 3" lift. I love it I get to keep some torque and stability, and it looks great

You can make a cart look sharp either lifted or not lifted with the right wheel/tire combo. Unless you are going to race it around sharp turns, stability and ride really shouldn't have to suffer much by lifting it. With a 3" lift, you should be able to fit 20" tires on it. With a 6" lift, you can go 22" or even 23" as I did. My last cart was lifted but I really wanted to do this one with more of a low profile street look (no lift). But my son was just not as into it and he is usually the one sporting the cart around the campgrounds when we take it.

I didn't want to spend the $$ either, especially right away. So, I started with a basic cart with a rear seat. I found a good deal on a light kit, so I bought it and installed it along with taking the country club name sticker off the front and replaced it with a chrome and black CC logo. I waited a bit until I came across a good deal on a stereo and some speakers and bought and installed those. I kept my eye on wheel/tire combos until I came across a good deal that included free shipping. They stayed in my barn in boxes for months until I came across an online auction for a lift kit that nobody had bid on. It was a Sunday afternoon and I guess everyone was watching football, so I won it at the starting bid, so I got a good price on that as well. Once I finally had all the pieces, I installed the lift and the tires and wheels. I've since added a steering wheel which included a hub adapter and my kids decided on and put some decals on it. I also added a spare battery and rewired all my accessories to it.

When I add it up, it's still a lot of money but it's a LOT less than if I had bought it from a dealer already done. And it didn't feel like as much because I did it over a period of time.

I think this was the same question I asked in my 2nd post here! I ended up lifting of course. I went with a 6" and it is up there! I think a 3" would give you the best of both worlds. There is an increase in roll over risk when you change your center of gravity that much, just don't drive like a dumb a$$

Unless you are a serious hunter of off roader, it's really all about style. I wanted the off-road/truck look on mine. I'm building a street/convertible sports car style cart for my wife, no lift of course.

Either way, have fun with it and make it your own! Feel free to "borrow" ideas from the guys here at BGW; if you can do it to a golf cart, it's been done here.

PS: As far as "spending the money" forget about not spending the money, it's going to happen - welcome to the madness!

I'm thinking about a 3" Lift, 22"X11"X10" Tires/Wheels, Rear Flip Seat (riding two additional passengers from time to time) with the stock motor (Club Car 3.3 hp with the pig tail harness extending from one end) and stock controller. This will all be on an '08 CC Precedent with 4 12 volt batteries. I will be going up and down hills occassionally, but mostly flat paved roads. Will I need to upgrade to a different motor/controller or should I be okay with the stock internals?

Your sage advice is welcome.
