OBC Bypass @ Charger
I have an Club Car Precedent 04 that the charger will not kick on . It's been over a year since I have looked into fixing it so all my batteries are dead. No big problem because they are the original batteries and I was already planning on buying new ones. Before I go pick up the new batteries I want to fix my issues on the cart. I am guessing its the OBC but I want to be sure before I order one. I have a powerdrive 2 charger and tried to do the OBC bypass at the charger. When I plugged in the charger I could hear it humming but the amps gauge stayed at zero. My OBC is a Version 2.05.
Question: Does the battery pack need to show 48volts for the charger to kick on? Thanks for the help! Pictures: |

Re: OBC Bypass @ Charger
it needs to see like 30 something volts to come on.
if you hear humming and no amp meter movement, you'll likely need to replace the batteries before you can accurately diagnose the charger issue (if there actually is one). the OBC regulates the charge current and has been know to misbehave when batteries get to that sort of state. replacing the batteries may completely resolve the problem. worst case, you have to a wait a few days to charge your new batteries if parts are needed for the charger. -sj |

WOW. What a quick turn around time for a response. Thank you! I have a small single battery charger I can spice them up with. Either way I think I will be getting a new OBC because the one I have now is the old one with problems. I will post my results. Again thanks!

Re: OBC Bypass @ Charger
Don't go buying an OBC yet. You should have 4 12V batteries in that cart. Charge each one individually. Then try the charger so you can get a better feeling at what is wrong. It could be something as simple as a rectifier.

Re: OBC Bypass @ Charger
It can be my rectal what? J/K
Here is some more history about my cart. When the batteries were good and I could charge I still had an issue. When I was out using the cart all of a sudden I would only have half speed with the peddle pressed all the way down. If I turn the key off and on I would then regain full speed. This would happen constantly when in use. So I guessed it was the OBC trying to shut down the system???? what do you think? It might be my rectal causing the issue. I am sure that’s what my wife would bet on. And yes, I have 4 x12's |

Re: OBC Bypass @ Charger
The OBC runs the charger! You have another issue. MCOR, misroswitch, ect.

Re: OBC Bypass @ Charger
I got the battery pack up to 36 volts tonight. Plugged in the charger and still nothing. I am charging over night and will report my findings in the morning.

Re: OBC Bypass @ Charger
Just charge each battery 1 at a time with a 12V car charger if that's not what you are doing. Then put your charger wires back on the rectifier (diod tree) and try and see what happens. There is also a very simple test for the rectifier using a DMM. It's in the manual in the sticky at the top.

Re: OBC Bypass @ Charger
erict, Thanks for the link.
Colbyntx, Yes I am charging one battery at a time. I also found the PDF on testing the Rectifier so I will take a shot at that too. But I dont know what you mean when you say"Then put your charger wires back on the rectifier (diod tree) and try and see what happens." Are you talking about jumping the charger to bypass the OBC and see if it kicks on? |
