Default Club Car add on light kit problems

OK,... So I purchased the correct lite kit for my 2008.5 club car and the bucket harness. Looks like it is a good kit,..but the dealer doesn't have a clue about the wiring for my cart. What I need to know is since I have a basic cart shipped to a golf course, did it ever have a brake switch and is there a way to hook up my new turn signal switch to the light kit harness.

It seems the OBC can sense the brake pedal as I believe it has the ability to control the settings for park and lock of the brakes (or control the motor) on a hill. I have the wiring diagram for the basic cart included in the illustrated parts catalog,..and for some reason it shows the rear tail lights but does not show anything about the headlights or the light switch. The manual they put out covers both the gas and electric carts so why wouldn't the put out one schematic for a complete cart and let other decide which features they really don't have.,.... that would be toooooo smart. Would appreciate any help as trying to trace the wiring in this harness,..or cut it open,..would be asking for trouble.

trigger1937,

Look at the link below. Perhaps it will give you some insight into the '08.5 CC Precedent. I do not know if your cart has a brake light switch. These instructions suggest that, if not, you can install the appropriate harness to set up the operation.

Zackman,... Thanks very much for the link. Strange thing is this is the same place I bought my light kit,..but this is their "Brake kit" and Turn signal kit, which cost as much as the original light kit. Anyway,..it is clear there is no brake switch installed in these carts unless that came equipped from CC with a light kit. All the extra stuff in this kit is there just to hold the brake lights on for 10 seconds after you release the brake pedal. I don't really need that or like it. I had it on my 1999 Yamaha and many people complained about it.

The good thing about the link you gave me is that it provided a lot more information on what I need to do and how to do it. Thanks much.

Zackman,...The link provides pictures and install instructions only and does not include any wiring diagram. While the wires are there for everything the Dealer won't provide and schematics. The dealer will sell you all the parts you need for only $250 but this way you can use any parts you already have. Not what I want to do.

Does anyone know how to find the wiring diagram for the Club Car bucket harness.

Zackman,... I was studying the "ultimate harness" image file you linked for me and it all makes sense except the 48 volt relay. There are 4 wires to that relay so two of them must be the hot and ground lead. I assume the hot side is either controlled by the OBC but I don't know what function it is doing. The light switch and every thing else in the harness is working on +12 volts including the front lights. I could spend the next 5 weeks tracing all this wiring but the wiring diagram provided by Club Car does show what wires are included in their 12 pin connector,..which is their version of the bucket harness.

I guess the dealers keep this secret for fear that people will build and wire their own accessories and they may loose a little business.

Another key point is the difference in design of the Brake light function. Some carts have 2 brake light switches,..one for the brake and one for the Parking brake. If the parking brake is set, this disables the brake lights,..else they would stay on forever. A 2nd design adds a 10 second timer that turns off the brake light power no matter if the Parking brake is locked. While this is a little more complex than two switches it does do the function and cut the rear lights off.

On the 04-07s the kit is plug and play. The existing harness hooks up to the kit under the dash and in the battery compartment. It runs off of battery #4 for 12 volts.

Do you have the precedent with the 8 volt batts? That would be a different beast, I suppose. I can't believe the dealer has no clue, WTF??

Also, the OBC has nothing to do with the lights on my precedent, there is no factory brake switch and/or timer either. But, the factory harness is light kit ready.

Steve,..I have the 2008.5 with 12 volt batts. This unit was from a golf course and came with nothing, and there is no bucket harness. So I purchased a full function light kit that also came with the bucket harness. I did not purchase the Turn signal unit since I had one. I did not purchase the horn function sinc I had one. I did not purchase the brake light kit since I don't like the one they offer which is a time delay relay. As a result they won't provide ANY SCHEMATICS AT ALL and I guess this is because people like me won't purchase their $255 Ultimate kit after paying $185 for the light kit and the bucket harness.

I think I have most all of it figure out and I can trace the rest with my VOM meter, but their is an extra _48 volt relay that does not make sense.

Zackman,.... As you indicated,...the real wiring diagram would make all the difference. I have the Club Car Illustrated Parts Catalog which does include the wiring diagram of the OBC, controller, batteries, and it even includes the schematic for the bucket harness. However the "Bucket harness" I purchased contains a full set of 12 wires. The Light kit wiring that mates with the 12 pin connectors has another connector breakout for the turn signal controls, plus the brake switch, 48 volt relay, horn, etc. which is really just designed to fit the parts they sell. Only pictures with plug and play. No diagrams. The Club car IP catalog only shows the wiring up to the 12 pin connector.

I think I have no choice but to trace it out and make my own wiring diagram.
