05 Precedent with 12 volts

Ok I have an 05 Precedent with the 4 x 12v batteries. They are 07 batteries and have been great but I have all of a sudden noticed they are going dead quickly. Now I havent ran the tests to check them out cause I figured I was on borrowed time with them anyway. Question is what is my best option now.
1) Go back with 6 x 8v batteries and not have to change anything but the battery tray
2) Go back with 4 x 12v in battery tray and pop 2 more 12v in bagwell for 72v and upgrade to HD solenoid and 72v onboard charger(would I have to change my motor?)
3) Do whatever off the wall suggestion you all may have!!!

4 12volt btys $185 a battery = $740 + tax, 3 to 4 years life
6 8volt btys $90 a battery = $540 = tax, 6 to 8 years life also will require a new battery tub at $400 + tax, total $940

These are prices at Sam's Club for the new Duracell bty's

yes I am leaving the charger on. My meter is in my work van which is in the shop so cant check specifics until Monday.

I have an 05 as well with the original Trojan batteries

They still work and charge fine but will be replacing them in the spring since I will be storing the cart away at the end of the month for the winter. I know the best route would be to replace them with the 8v but I am going to just get the 12v since the additional cost of the conversion kit will not go over well with my wife seeing I just bought this cart but I did know it would need batteries. The 12v will serve me fine since I just use the cart on my property. If you can afford the the upgrade and use your cart alot then I would consider the 8v route.

I think that just because CC went back to the 6 8 volt configuration, people feel that the 4 12 volt configuration is worthless? Well, I think they are mistaken

The cart is designed for golf courses and constant use. With that said, many clubs complained that the 4 12v configuration wasn't meeting golf course requirements because they wouldn't last the entire day. That may be true, but for us folks that use the cart for entertainment and/or houshold use, the 4 12s works out fine. I get all the run-time I need with plenty left-over! You can pickup a Precedent with 4 12s for a great price, because people will pay more for the carts with the 6 8s. (supply/demand)
As an added bonus, I only have 4 batteries to mess around with

If your batts are old and you need replacements, I think you will be very happy with the performance of 4 fresh 12v batteries

Now don't get me wrong. If money was no issue, I would convert to the 6 batt configuration, but for me (and most), it's not a requirement!

One could spend $50,000 on a Chevy Volt and still get under 100 miles on it's batteries . . . what can one really expect . . . it is a golf car . . .

golfcarts arn,t made for constant use they are made for limited use.......and they arn,t made for road driving.......they are designed for stop and go 36 holes of golf with the rest of the time sitting on a charger..........i,m certain if the makers had any idea,s of what we were going to do with them they would have been designed differently......................................8 )

shadow is correct: What I was trying to say is golf courses buy them and expect constant use, as they don't make money with a cart on the charger. The courses here are open from sunrise to sunset, one has a lighted 9 hole!
So my point was that the 4 batteries were just not doing it for that kind of use. Plus kids getting minimum wage to keep the carts maintained didn't help with the longevity and/or performance either. Club Car or Trojan did not do the required homework concerning fleet use, if carts are running out of juice before the course is closed. This is what I was trying to say!

I agree. Our plans for this '08 CC Precedent is to use it while RVing which we do alot when the season is in full swing. It will not see a golf course, which I do play the game occasionally (I'll use theirs). The 4 12 volt configuration is probably what I will stick with. If money was no contender, I may or may not convert to 6 8s. Since I am brand new to carting, I will stick with what works for me right now.
